How well do the Next Generation Ka-Bars hold an edge? I've heard (maybe on this board) that it is difficult to heat treat the steel that is used on the new Ka-Bars and that this may have affected their edge holding capability.

I have a Next Generation model 1222NK and it takes and hold a wicked edge. I havnt had any problems with it at all. So its well worth the money I spent on it. All around great knife.

I agree with gunner on the edge ability, no problems taking or holding one. I have the 8in. fighter with the kydex sheath and think it's a great deal for the money. You will be happy with a Ka-bar.

I also have the 8" fighter and I agree that the edge holding is just dandy.Mine has a wicked edge on it

Touch it at all and you are cut.

definitely an improvement on the old Kabar. Holds a much better edge.

Are we talking about the Sandvik blades, or the 1095. I just got a Brigade Quartermasters (and looked at an old one as well), and there are two types of new configurations. One is satin, in Sandvik. The other is blackened, in 1095. Which are better overall knives? Sandvik, for corrosion? Or 1095, for edge holding? Or just for expense?

Sandvik I assume.

Ka-Bar's are awesome. It's the knife I'd grab if I had to fight something...
