Over the years I have had several students, none of which has been able to stay with the craft. When my daughter expressed an interest in making knives, I let her know that she needed to be sure she was going to stick with it. Teaching is somewhat time consuming for me, and I let her know that I would not be happy if she treated it lightly. After considerable soul searching and some practice filing, she decided that she was willing to dedicate herself to the craft. Looking over the design drawings she had created for her first knives I was somewhat sceptical, they seemed very ambitious. As it turnes out however, I was completely wrong. The first knife was of a quality and workmanship that I was not able to achieve until several years into my knifemaking career. Though she is still influenced by my work, she will have no problem moving into a new direction, given her arts background and imagination. I am certain that she will be a much better maker than I can hope to be. I am very proud of her.

WOW! Brings to mind the OLD cliche "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree".

Thanks for posting your daughters work Wolfgang.

It will be a pleasure to see more of it. AND of yours:D

Peter

that's fantastic, Wolfgang:).
I can imagine how proud you must feel, having a 5 year old daughter myself. I am constantly stunned by her newfound skills.

You are likely a very patient man, and therefore an excellent father and teacher. Many eyes will be on her work as she develops her skills and her network, you've laid a solid foundation and have created a real legacy for her.

What is her first name?

Thank you for the kind comments. Lorien, her first name is Elizabeth. She is 29, so old enough to take things seriously. It is great to see her enthusiasm and willingness to spend whatever time is necessary to work the details to the best of her ability.

One can certainly see the paternal influence, in her artwork! It's stunning, Wolfgang.

Best,

Wolfgang i have always regarded you as the very best at what you do

Looks like you might have some competition:D

Only one comment Wolfe (and what a fine Teacher you turned out to be!).
Will the young lady be kind enough to sell me her first of hopefully many..to come?
I guess that gives you all, my humble opinion

Well, Wolfgang, here is proof that apples do not fall far
from the tree.... In this case from father to daughter... Wow!

And watch out, the new generation of today, in many cases,
learns faster and.... than our "older" generation...

All the best to Elizabeth too!

Given the fact that this is her first knife, she must be overflowing with talent. What a great looking knife.

You must be proud to have your daughter following your footsteps. Although it can sometimes be hard to teach your own child :D

wolfe -- will El have something at the CKG show? We would love to add to the Wolfe family legacy as we have something by Barb. any chance my folder is ready?

I'm not surprised at your 'proudness' (Is that a word?) ;)

Yes, she has learned the intrinsic skills of fluting and applying them to a simple shape to make it worthy.

Like Dave Ellis, I suspect a promising future.

Thank you!

Having three daughters myself I can imagine how proud and pleased you are.
She certainly has talent and it will be a joy to see her carry on the family tradition.

Thanks for sharing her first knife with us.

I'm sorry, I'm getting older and my eyes are bad....

Is that really a folding knife?

If so, how the **bleep** does it work. Honestly, I don't understand how this was made. I just sit here and stare and my feeble brain just cannot comprehend the brilliance of this piece of artwork.

Absolutely incredible!
