I fell in love with my Leek I purchased a while back and just ordered a JYD 2 composite(waiting impatiently for it) but I'm wondering what you guys thing I should go for next, a Speed bump or a Needs Work? I really want an Offset but I'm just not quite ready to talk the girlfriend in to a $150 knife purchase. So what do ya'll think? Anyone have side by side pics of the bump and needs work?

thanks
-Bret

Hi fatheadhill and welcome to the forums!!

I'm positive there will be some of the Kershaw resident experts around here that will be by to get you all the info you need.

Both are great knives, It would be hard for me to pick between the two. Heres a side by side pic.

PS tell your girlfriend an Offset is well worth the price;)

:) I'll give it a shot, haha. Thanks for the pic too! Do ya'll think I'd be better off waiting a bit a just getting the Offset, is it any better than the other 2?

just found a Needs Work on ebay for $26.99, awful tempting, good price?

Howdy fatheadhill and welcome to the Kershaw forum! First, we're considered a bunch of pranksters here and a very tight knit community, so keep that in mind in the future! A prime example is the post above. Don't let Thomas W. fool you; he's Kershaw's National Sales Manager! HE's the expert, not us.

As for the Speed Bump or Needs Work, I don't have comparison pics as I don't own a Needs Work, but they will eventually follow. The biggest difference is the blade shape. If you like the big recurve, go with the SB. If you're looking for a tough all around work knife, the NW fits the bill nicely. If you really want the Offset, sounds to me like the SB would be a closer choice now.

And to muddy the waters a bit more, the Blur (AO) or the Cyclone (AO) are great knives, as is the Groove (non AO) and all 3 are well under your GF money tolerance levels (and speaking of tolerance, let's not even get into the Zero Tolerance line yet). Kershaw has begun shipping the RAM, a new design for Kershaw designed by Grant and Gavin Hawk. Again, the RAM should be a little more than half your max $ 150 price range.

So I hope this has helped a little bit, and hang around. There's a wealth of knowledge here regarding Kershaws, and all are very happy of offer assistance when they can.

well.., I just ordered the Need's Work looked like a good deal for $30 shipped. Man, this is getting bad! I just ordered a Boker Rampage, A Kershaw JYD 2 composite, a cheap S&W Karambit, a CRKT Triumph necker, a mercharness, and a Need's Work all in the last 24 hours the girlfriend is gonna shoot (or stab :p ) me, haha!! Oh well, everyone needs a hobby right!

I'm not always about the most pricey or large. I think the Needs Work is a lesser known winner. I've had one and I found it to be both perfect in the hand, with great ergonomics, and an easy blade to sharpen for use as a utility knife. Sounds like it would be perfect to round out the three

Have to agree with ya OE. It is a great knife.
I think you'll love it Fathead.

P.S. Thomas knows nothing about knives. I don't know why he even bothers hanging out here. ;)

...Good choice, and good price on the Needs Work! Next, you might want to take a look at either a Cyclone and/or Groove.

...And quit buying those other-than-Kershaw knives, as they'll just end-up in a drawer somewhere, in-favor of the Kershaws.:D.

You can't go wrong with the Needs Work-its hands down the sharpest knife I've ever seen out of the box. It's a great work knife. 'Course, the Cyclone's are very nice too. Clint

OMG!!! I can't stop :D:D:D
To funny, and I didn't even mean it. Sorry about that......Fathead. ;) :D

haha!! Nah, it's a nickname from my dad. I have a fairly large head. Ya know those ball caps with the plastic type snap in the back, well mine has to be on the last hole! So he started calling me fathead and it just kinda stuck. So now it's my e-mail and login for just about everything. Keep a look out for any Fathead imposters, k!?!

My Leek was my first Kershaw and by far my fav lil' pocket knife out of the countless I've had over the years (mostly el cheapo's though), so sticking with the Kershaw's doesn't seem like a bad idea! and btw, this is the friendliest and most responsive section I've seen thus far on BF, so thanks for making a new guy feel welcome!!

Ain't no Fathead imposters getting by on my watch!!!! :D

You won't find a better group of folks then the ones that hang
out around here.
Just watch out for that Thomas W. guy.....He's trouble I tell ya!!

why oh why do i see Mike saying that instead of you SV?

ok lemme run down the list for ya fatheadhill (you see, I'm the NORMAL one ;) ).

Chive, boa, baby boa, spec and speed bump, offset (g-10 and alum. handle), JYD 1 &2, Lahar, RAM, Ener-g 1 & 2, the Skyline and Oso-sweet (when shipped), shallot, OCC leek and blur, normal blur, heck, ALL OF THEM

According to my girlfriend "anyone with a knife obsession is wierd" so I don't know how normal you (or me for that matter) can be!! haha :p

But then again, I don't really ever listen to her anyway!! :)
