next knife: 710, 940, or small Sebenza?

I just bought a large Sebenza, and honestly think I could be happy with just this knife to carry every day (especially after cleaning and lubing it myself... it's amazing!). But why stop now? I thought maybe a small Sebenza would be nice, because then I'd have a pair, but I'm also intrigued by AXIS lock knives -- the 710 and 940 in particular. Assumnig you didn't own all of these already, which would you buy next?

You really can't go wrong with either of the three. FWIW, I got a 710 (M2) three weeks ago and made the comment/admission to my wife that I cannot see ever "needing another folder." That was probably a tactical error on my part, but true nonetheless. :)

Tommy, that was a huge tactical error. I don't know how you'll dig yourself out of that one.

monkey - It depends on what you want to do with your next knife. While most would agree that the small Sebenza is a "better" knife than the Benchmades, that's no reason not to buy and carry them. If your Sebenza's size will freak some people out, the 940 or small Sebenza would be good choices. If you want a knife with more defensive capabilities, the 710 is the one you want. The axis locks kick ass and once you get one you're bound to get more. For the price of the small Sebenza you could get the 710 and 940 and still have money left over. You've got good taste in knives, so whatever you chose will be a good one. :)

You've already invested the cash to get a semi-custom piece with the Seb. Like someone else said, you can get both BMs for less the small Seb. Easy answer: the 710

I have all and am not overly impressed with 710. 710 is good tactical knife that has axis lock etc but it is bland. It is also common knowledge that quality on 940 is much better. It has more character and offers only a little bit shorter blade than 710.

If you really really want an axis then 940 is smoother specimen of that kind.

It is easyer to buy cheaper knives first as downgrading from sebenzas etc isn't easy.

As you already have large benza you know what you got when you buy small.

If I was in your shoes I'd buy 940 now and small benza next month.

Monk,

I have all three that you are considering. The 710 (in M2 steel) is a wonderful knife, but is of the same size and heft as the large Seb. If you are after a portfolio, the small seb and 940 are both good choices. I prefer the 710 over the 940 or 942 because it I like the action better. The 940 is a neat LITTLE knife, and does not feel all that good to me, way short of the feel of the small seb.

My advice would be the small seb. If you do not like it, you can sell it and buy both the 710 and an Osborne Axis.

I cannot speak to either the 710 or the Sebenza, but I really like the 940 and the Osborne 770. They are both very good examples of the "Gentleman's Pocketknife". The 940 is quite well designed, fitting my hand very well and looking very svelte while doing so. The only thing that keeps it out of the running as an EDC knife for me is its blade size, over 3". I work where there is a 3" limit. I actually carry a Gunting as an EDC because the controls are easier for arthritic hands and it has a 3" blade.

I just ordered a small Sebenza my self this week so I will vote for that one. I have a 710 and really like it. It is a great edc if you don't mind how big it is. I had a 940 and sold it because I just didn't like it for some reason. Just a personal thing because it was perfect right out of the box.

The Axis lock is really not better or worse than the Integral Lock, so if you just want variety get a Benchmade. If you want a small Sebenza, but want it a little different than your large, consider a Classic.
