I use most of my knives for EDC or for heading into the woods. I think (for now) I have it down to these few:

BM 552 Ritter
BM 520 Presidio (Pardue)
BM 730 - Oops... I ment the 730 Ares .. I guess now it is the 732 (but only in black blade)
Pro-Tech TR-3
Spyderco C95 Manix

Suggestions and experiences welcome.

Thanks,
Hawk

The Spyderco Manix is an outstanding knife, one of my favourite folders. It can handle a lot of hard work. I love it and would definitely recommend it.

The Ritter Grip is a very good addition to an already great knife like the Griptillian. The blade geometry is very useful and the AXIS lock rocks. My only complaint (as with any other Griptillian) is that the handle material feels cheap. It's a quality knife for a good price, but I like the Manix a bit more because it feels tougher (I like holes more than thumbstuds, so that also factors in).

You can't go wrong with either of them.

If you don't have any high-end Spydies, get the Manix. If you don't have any Axis BMs, get the 520 or 730. If you already have both, then it's a crapshoot.

I would pick up either the Ritter or the Manix. The Manix is probably my favorite production folder at the moment, but the AXIS lock is my preferred lock format and the Griptilian is an excellent design.

My current collection only consists of a BM Skirmish and an Al Mar SERE 2K (on the way). So I really don't have either.

Get the BM 730...You will thank me for this advice later.:).

On the other hand, he already owns a BM and has no Spydies... Going off the original list, I'd have to suggest the Manix.

Once you have the Hole, there is no going back...

I'm with Glockman, there isn't a bad knife on that list, but the 730 is the pick of that litter. Great ergonomics, an incredible action even for a Benchmade Axis, and excellent geometry. I own way too many knives :D , and when I need to pick up a folder to do WORK with, the 730 invariably is the one I reach for. When I started renovating this house, I rotated through a lot of folders for the "doing everything, for hours" role, and the 730 came out way ahead. Tank tough, very comfortable in my hand even for long periods of hard work, a great general purpose drop point blade, and a sharp but extrememly abusable tip.

And in case stupidly impossible things happened and all you had was your EDC, it's really not a bad defensive piece either. Not up there with the great special purpose martial arts knives, but it grips well in saber, reverse, icepick, and pikal techniques, indexes easily, makes a good fistload, and has a sharp point leading a wide blade.

Not a bad hunter either.

It isn't a specialist. But for me, it's the best all-purpose heavy duty folder I own.

It is NOT a lightweight - it's a not a huge monster, but it will put some serious pocket sag in a pair of light dress trousers. And the blade is just over 3.5", if that's a legal problem for you. If that's not a problem, grab one.
