I'm deciding between the manix 2 and the manix 2 xl. I currently own a para 2 and love the size and feel. My only concern with getting the xl is that it may be too big in pocket and in hand. But I don't want to get the 2 and it be too small. Unfortunately I can't handle it in person. I'm relying on you guys to help me decide. Id be glad to hear any comments and suggestions.

I had a manix for a while and compared to the PM2 it is reallly wide, so much so that it can restrict how easy it is to grab other things in the pocket with it. That, and the fact that it probably has the same steel as your PM2 most likely, would lead me to recommend getting something different, maybe a Gayle Bradley or something? I know it isn't what you asked but that's what I'd do.

I'm also thinking about getting a caly 3.5 or a Benchmade custom griptilian so I may go with one of those instead

A MAJOR game changer IMO is the Buck Marksman, allow me to intice you:

It's on par with the Griptilian and the Manix 2, all are great blades, you'll be happy with any of them.

I've had a Manix 2. Nice knife. The XL is a beast. If you want a beast, there it is.
There is a large difference in "bulk" between the Caly3.5 and the Gayle Bradley. Both are great knives although I think that the GB has "intentionally" greater heavy-duty potential.
The GBradley grip is 17% thicker than the PM2 and barely shorter than the PM2
The BM Griptilian (551) grip is 42% thicker than the PM2 and a very tiny bit shorter. The Grip is a BEAST, IMO.
The Caly3.5 is 20% more SLIM than the PM2 and 1/2" shorter. Very nice pocket-carry and still fits my XL hands just fine. I carried a Caly3 (1/2" shorter than the Caly3.5) for several yrs at work and it fit just fine in my rather large hand.
The Caly in either ZDP-189 or in SuperBlue (or VG-10 if you wish) provides an excellent do-everything knife.
You want to know my reco?
The Spyderco SAGE 2. 1/2" shorter than the PM2. Grip-width is just between the Caly and the PM2. Blade is 3" long but is leaf-shaped (like Manix?) and will do anything you want it do and come back for more.
I really love the Sage 2, in titanium slabs and Chris Reeve Integral frame-lock. What a great feeling to hold one of these!

+1 on the sage 2, have one that gets tons of pocket time because the ergos are great, the lockup is bank vault, the materials are premium and the whole package disappears into my pocket.

Never tried a Caly, interested though.

Have fun spending your loot man!

I seem to have the same issues sometimes to...!! What i did was i bought the big knife, this way you have one big folder and you can use it as a gauge for any future purchases !!..Plus i don't think a Manix 2 XL would disappoint you at all...

There are several Manix 2 variations.

There is the original Manix 2 with G10 scales. Except sprints they have saber ground blades.

The new second generation Manix 2 released a few weeks ago has a Full Flat Ground blade and G10 scales.

Then there are the lightweights.

Blue was first, then black.

And coming out in a few days is a new lightweight with blue Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN) scales and S110v blade.

Good luck on whatever you choose.
