Hey guys, been getting some amazing information from this site the past few months and finally decided to join up. I participate in other forums mostly firearm and automotive related but their gear/knives sections don't have anything on this place! Wanted to join a blade specific one and this is certainly the best I've found. I want to thank everyone for all the excellent information and contributions I've seen here, it's an excellent resource.

I've always loved knives and gear and finally decided to get into quality knives as opposed to the typical gerber/crkt /smith and Wesson knives I've always had with a few kershaws thrown in. They have their place of course but I really started to like Spyderco and Benchmade knives and will be adding multiple of each to my collection, as well as more kershaws and others.... SOG, Cold Steel, ZT, and more.

Recently I've purchased a Tenacious and Delica4 as well as a Blur. I LOVE the Sage III with bolt action lock in the grayish/CF weave pattern. Got to hold one and the weight and size is perfect for my EDC. Must have. I also really want a Griptilian though. I AM going to buy both of these knives but I can only get one at a time since they're both over/around $100. Whichever one I don't get I'll buy in 2 months or so.

Which would you guys buy first? The Sage III or Grip? I'm leaning towards the Sage III a little but at the same time I don't have any benchmades yet so it would be cool to finally get one.... Silly question, I know I know. What's everyone's opinion on these knives then? I know their highly renowned and there's plenty of topics on both already I'm sure but I just don't know which to buy first :D

I like both. Both similar and excellent locks. In my opinion, the Sage III offers more bang for your buck with the carbon fiber and S30V steel. Can't go wrong with either. My vote is for Sypderco.

Mini-grip here.. had a few of the Sages, and while they are a great design, the mini-grip is more pocket friendly and does everything the bigger Sage can. I have one with a clip and one without that I can just toss in my pocket if I want to go clipless.

The Sage III is chunky compared to the Sage I and II. It's wider when closed and slightly longer overall if I remember correctly. It's a solid knife but the bolt action mechanism is not fluid like the Axis lock. It's kinda stiff and notchy. But that may be a good think depending on what you want.

If it were my money I'd say get the Grip. It's more flick friendly, and axis is more fun to play around with. The Benchmade 940 is my favorite.

Had and sold minigrip. Not for me. I love sage models; have seven Sage folders including one sage3 cf. great knife.

I like the Griptilian. It has been a knife that holds its edge for a very long time, and with proper sharpening can last for years and years.

The only downfall I find about it though, is that it tends to rust easier. But overall it is a great knife that is awesome for just about anything.

I have a mini grip and honestly, for the money, I've been disappointed. For what they charge you should get G10 scales and S30V steel, not plastic and 154CM. I have a Sage 1 and it's easily one of my favorite knives. Get the Sage, skip the Grip all together.

I would go for the sage. I have a griptilian, and its cool and all but i would prefer the sage because its more appealing to the eye and a better steel s30v as apposed to 154cm. Also if you want to fully take the knife down to clean the sage is easier to. So my reccomendation in the short term get the sage. Long term, get them both.

The Small Grip's lock is super and if the handle was 1/4" longer, I would like it. I have a small hand and still can't get a full grip on it........no for grip.(had two Grips gave them to Nephew)

The Sage I and II are far better than the and the Small Grip. I have III, don't like the lock action.

Are you referring to the full size BM Grip? The mini grip is closer to he Sage 3 as the full size 551 is much larger.

My mini grip doesn't see a whole lot of pocket time. It's a good EDC blade but I find myself opting for others when I make my selection in the morning. I don't have a Sage 3, but if I did, I think I would carry it more than the mini grip. Gotta love carbon fiber/S30v as opposed to relatively uncomfortable grip textured molded scales and 154cm.

I can't comment on the Sage, but I do have a Griptillian. The Griptillian is a great daily carry knife. Nothing fancy about it, just a good inexpensive knife to carry that won't make you cry if you lose it.

I carried mine for a while, but find myself carrying a Victorinox most days for some reason.

Had and sold both the mini and regular grip. just felt very cheap, and that was before BM's current pricing scheme. Don't own any of the Sage, but love my Spyderco's so that's where my money goes. Better value for your $.
