Hi All,

New to the forum so I figured i'd start with a list of what I currently own and like and see what sort of suggestions you would suggest for the next purchase.

I'll try to list them from largest to smallest - of coarse I might be off a little.

Becker BK7 with micarta handles - camping
Cold Steel Bushman - used before the BK7 came along
Esee4 - have this attached to my maxpedition proteus, which i bring into the bush for day trips, hunting etc
Mora 2000 - great little knife used to make feather sti usually bring along with my bk7
Cold Steel Recon 1 Clip point - also in the proteus, bought because of the lock and as a backup incase the esee goes missing
Spyderco Manix 2 - wanted to try the ball lock and it felt good in hand
Spyderco Tenacious all balck FFG - who doesn't have one of these lol
Kershaw Oso Sweet - wanted to try a assisted opening
Delica 4 ZDP-189 FFG green - love this knife and is my favorite EDC
CRKT minimalist - in the proteus so have around for skinning smaller animals, etc
Spyderco hawkbill lady bug H1 - keychain knife, love this litle thing

As you can see I tend to lean towards Spyderco for my smaller knives, edc'ing. I love the idea of having a rust proof knive such as the H1 spydercos. Since having the hawkbill lady bug i've been considering a larger hawkbill to buy. The delica 4 fits me the best and i just plain love the feel of this knife. Why i was considering a tasman if I go hawkbill or salt 1, nearest to the same size as D4. I'm just not sure if the hawkbill style blade would fit the bill. One gap I can see in my current line up would be a rust proof knife I could bring along with me camping, fishing, outdoor winter activities, etc. Something I don't need to worry about cleaning right away. Once the knife is picked I then need to decide to go SE or PE.

Can you tell i'm not exactly sure which direction to go? Please let me know if you see any other gaps in my current lineup that I could fill beside what I have mentioned.

Appreciate all the help!

Dan

Perhaps you need a gentleman knife and a traditional knife. Oh and a friction folder.

I'd suggest a Spyderco Caly 3.5 for a gentleman's folder if you don't mind the $230+ price tag. The Kershaw Leek is also a good choice for less than $100.

Caly 3.5 I have heard is a great knife.

I think I might learn more towards the caly 3 since the delica is my favorite thus far and is closer to that size. Read the caly 3.5 is closer in size to the manix 2, which fits so well in my hand, just doesn't carry too great.

Might be stuck buying a few knives since I can't decide lol Caly 3, Tasman SE, Salt 1 SE

How about a Victorinox classic for your keyring? You'll use it more than you think.

For a gentleman's knife, get a nice Case or Buck traditional.

For a gentleman's knife, I'd recommend a BM470 Emissary...3" S30V, lightweight, assisted opening, deep carry clip.

I think a Spyderco Air would be a great gentleman's knife.

Also a Caly 3 in Carbon Fiber with ZDP blade or Caly 3 in Carbon Fiber with SS bolsters and Damascus blade.

Not a Becker on this list! BK16 for your next fixed blade, Spyderco Manix 2 for your next folder. Decision made, buy, show pics once they arrive. :)

You are missing something that is a show stopper in the looks department.

I would look into a Mcusta Tsuchi, to give you something that not only works well, but will impress anyone that see's it.

I have a Tsuchi Greeen, and love it so much I am likely picking up a Tsuchi Small for my next purchase. ;)

All look like great choices.

I'm either over thinking this or it really is tough to make a decision.

Thanks for the replies!

At some point you gotta get a Benchmade.
The 710 and 940 get special praise. I just got a 581 and it's possibly my favorite BM.
A decent slip joint should make any knife nut happy, too.

Try geting a bowie knife or kurkri for camping cold steel makes some decent ones(in my opion) or (on if legal) get a benchmade balisong or an auto knife these are pretty addicitve knives to open.

I would say you need an auto. Protech for ots, Microtech for otf. Ots is more practical, but otf is so much more fun. Try and branch out and get something you don't have. Someone said Mcusta for a dressier knife, excellent. Or how about a Benchmade with an Axis lock?

I live in Canada so an auto is a no go for me.

Being left handed I am leaning towards a benchmade 470 emissary or a spyderco caly 3/3.5 CF ZDP-189. I like the steel on the benchmade better, would be nice to try a different brand, but the looks of the spyderco CF is just awesome. I think it would blend in better with dark dress pants.

Pros and Cons to either?

What way would you go
