You guys were so much of a help on the backpacking and BWM questions that it only raised more :D. In the last week I've gotten the FBM SE and NMSFNO (waiting on the FBM still) but love the NMSFNO.

So I was wondering if you're going to go with an FBM for chopping, woods and backpacking. Do you go with the CG or the LE? The LE strikes me because of the Satin finish, but is it really that much better than the CG? Hopefully I can get some opinions on people who've handled both.

So I guess which would you with and why?

On a side note, that NMOASH looks good too, to buy or not to buy, oh no look what I've become addicted to the second I got a job.

I would imagine either one would chop well enough to suit your needs. I don't have the LE but I do have an FFBM and have had the CGFBM and I think I would choose to bring the FFBM because it just feels better in hand. Of course, that's MY opinion and a lot of others would feel different. I also have the SE and I would choose it over the FFBM.

Do you notice a significant difference in chopping power between the FFBM and the CGFBM?

The FFBM will out-chop the CGFBM, but not by a HUGE margin. I mean, all the FBM's chop well so you can't go wrong with either of them. A CGFBM with a thinned edge will definitely chop just about as good as an FFBM with a factory edge.

Yes, but unless you have popeye arms, that fat FFBM will wear you out.

I'm good. :D

Pic was for a joke about the shirt on ar15.com.

Honestly, I chop down trees with an ash 1, I can swing all day.

Dude, with those arms you could chop with a Game Warden and achieve the same results that I get with a Mistress!

Mike you are gonna need a FFBM...anything less and you are gonna be wanting more. Just ask my friend Tiny86.

I think the FFBM may be too small for you. :D

The FFBM is a big knife for most.....looks like you'll be able to handle her no problem.

I like the LE better, but the CG is lighter and will not let you down.

The FFBM is my "go to" chopper. Heck, it's my only chopper. I love it. But I have my eye on the NMFBM and simply must try one out one of these days. :)

Game Warden would be too easy for him, skeleton key and call it fair....

Yeah I mean I like the satin blade because of how easy it is to keep clean and shiny but I don't really care. I'd love for my user to have dings nicks and scrapes. I don't really want a FFBM, I've handled one and it just didn't fit too well, specially for one I'm gonna be lugging 8 hours a day.

Thanks for the info thus far!
