Being very, very new in the Sebenza Knives, if i don't tell hooey, the first steel used was ATS34, then BG42 and today S30V. Any thoughts in what will be the next steel, ZDP-189 or others ? What would be your ideal steel? Personnaly i enjoy my S30V as a EDC regarding what i do with it and what i had in the past (12C27 and 440).
Regards

I'm curious about this whole MIM or "metal injection molding" talked about in the new issue of blade. Interesting. I guess Kershaw is in production with it now.

I have a hand-made "pre-Sebenza" with a D2 blade, so add that to the list.

I think we will be seeing S30V used for quite some time on the knives.

James, I think you should open a web-based virtual Sebenza museum with the collection you have.

Since Chris had a lot to do with the development of S30V, I doubt you will see another type of steel any time soon if ever. Personally I'd like to see ZDP-189 or even a return of BG-42. My ideal steel on a Sebenza would be stainless Damasteel. ;)

I'm very impressed with ZDP-189. It would be nice if CRK will adopt this steel but since its a Japanese made steel its probably not going to happen.

How about liquid metal, what ever happened with that stuff for blades?

Naah... the S30V in my sebbie is just right.

Excellent taste in blades "blackend" !!!! I now have 2 Sebenza's with Stainless Damascus blades. One is a Classic with Raindrop Pattern and one is Standard with Basketweave pattern. BY FAR my absolute favorite knives. One is an EDC and one is just too nice. I have an S30V version too that is sweet.... but it's no Damascus.

I'd buy a Sebenza again if it were ZDP and keep it. I'm thouroughly impressed with this metal's edge holding.

Otherwise, my current one is up for sale on the Knife Exchange (websight model), till they make one with better metal. I never liked Spyderco's and barely still to. The blade play is bad. I dislike the blade design and the locking mechanism. But now I carry one because of the steel's performance. Kinda like an ugly rust bucket car with a dragster motor, pure performance. I'm still unhappy that a Spyderco of all knives, is my EDC.

Now, if a Sebenza were made of the ZDP blade material, I'd buy it and keep it in a heartbeat. The lockup, fit and finish and design may be the best I've ever seen on any knife that I've owned and I have owned Darel Ralphs, Elishewitz's, and Striders. It's just that S30V cant' compare in objective cutting ability. I hope CRK makes a competing steel so we don't have to buy that Japanese ZDP stuff. Why can't we make the same but better here in the states?

My S30V large classic is great, but a Sebenza with an INFI blade would be cool.

I don’t think the Busse folder is going to go into production in my lifetime, so an INFI blade in a Sebenza is an entertaining dream.

BG42 is nice stuff, and I’d like to get an older Sebbie with this blade steel.
