My collection is growing, I have a Persistance, and a Captain. I have a Sprint Run Manix 2 on order. While I'm waiting on the Manix I thought I'd pick up a Endura 4 or a Pacific salt but can't decide. Any recomendations or thoughts on these two?

Wow, you can't really go wrong with either of them. If you don't have a H1 series knife yet then consider the Pacific Salt. It's a great knife and I think I prefer it over the E4, but it's a close call; both are great. The Pacific Salt has the old Endura 3 handles which are unlined which makes the knife lighter and if fresh or salt water figures into any of your activities then the H1 is a real bonus.

Will the unline handles hold up as good as the lined ones on the E4? I want to use this knife as a work and EDCer. I'm an electrician so I need a dependable knife that can take some hard work. What about the Salt 1 would this be a better option?

I've carried a ZDP-189 Endura 4 for the past couple of years. Very solid knife! The steel is amazing! Saber grind kinda sucks though. Wish it were flat.

The Salt 1 is comparable to the Delica. It also has unlined handles. The only advantage of the lined handles I can think of is in terms of torsional strength. If you use the knife to pry something which really isn't what a knife is designed for anyway. The regular Endura and Delica have saber ground blades which are very strong, but they don't slice as well as FFG blades. The grind on the Salt 1 and Pacific Salt is similar to the Endura/Delica in that it starts about midway on the blade but it is hollow ground so I think the Salt series knives are marginally better slicers. Initially the H1 blades may be a little softer than the VG-10 of the Delica or Endura, but H1 is work hardened so the more you use it and sharpen it the harder the edge will become.

I have both the Salt 1 and the Pacific Salt. They are great knives and I'm finding myself reaching for them more and more when I have a dirty/wet job to do because I know that they can handle it and that rust isn't an issue. I like the unlined FRN handles because they clean up well.

Either of these knives would probably serve you well. Personally if I could only have either an Endura or Pacific Salt I would choose the Pacific Salt.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't post what specific uses you have for a knife and I'll try again.

EDIT: In terms of handle strength of the unlined Pacific Salt. I have a Gen 1 Endura I got around 1990 that is unlined and I have a couple Gen 3 Enduras and Delcias w/ unlined handles. I've never had any trouble or complaints w/ them. I think the unlined handles are plenty strong.

Thanks cgmblade and everyone else. I'm going to get the Salt 1, the 3" blade is probably the best size for stripping wire out. Plus I have a Cara Cara and the blade being a little less than 4" is just a tad too long for my taste. I find the shorter blades easier and more comfortable to use. Black Salt1 PE is what I'm getting. Once again thanks everyone.

I have a Pacific Salt, and see no reason to get an Endura as well. If I had to choose between the two again, I'd go with the Salt again. The E4 just doesn't do anything for me; neither does the shape of the Pacific, to be honest, but it has enough other stuff going for it (Lightweight, rustproof, large size) to make it my go-to knife for backpacking and wet-weather hiking and other outdoorsy stuff.

The Endura 4 G-10 is the way to go. It is on the larger size for an EDC at 3 3/4 inches, however it's very slim and narrow making it perfect if you like to carry a larger knife.

Its long handle is enough for even large hands. The addition of the G-10 and skeletonized thicker liners makes it feel much more substantial than the FRN. To me it is heads and tails above FRN which feels a little too "plasticky". I know that's not a word but you know what I mean!

Finally, the flat ground VG-10 blade came hair poppin' sharp out of the box.

To make this knife better, I would make the handle a little wider, the blade perhaps 1/4 inch shorter, (and slightly wider) as well. You'd have something similar to the Paramilitary which is selling for almost twice what the E4 right now.

Dollar for dollar this is one of the best deals going.

The Salt 1 is a great knife. It's so light you'll forget you have it.

I like this knife, I have not once regretted buying it. When we opened a new store, I had to unpack the 30 refrigerators that knife. I love love love it) I cut them fried chicken, and even bone. Excellent kid.

P.S. I apologize for my broken English)).

Your English is a lot better than my Ukrainian.

For the prices right now the Endura just cant be passed up in my opinion..I was considering it when it was at $100, now that it is running around $69....just ordered mine!
Best, Steve

just checked Spyderco and they only have 14 caly 3 zdps/cf in stock. Once they dry out, everyone will hoard the e-sellers that have stock of them. Once those ones sell out, I predict a avg price of $225 per on ebay. Do yourself a favor and go find one for about $110, that is if you like super sharp beautiful slicers.
