Next spydie tactical... ATR or Military?

Hey folks,

I've about decided it's time for another Spydie tactical to complement my Chinook.

I've always had my eye on the Military because of it's very appealing full-flat grind on the blade, the handles seems alright to me, and the single-steel liner, while not really a problem, doesn't appeal to me much. I also love G10. My only REAL holdback on the Military was the fact that it was CPM440V (a steel that, while not necessary BAD, doesn't yield the kind of edge behavior I personally prefer), obviously now that it's switching to S30V, this problem has gone away.

But then there's the ATR... with it's definetely "different" blade grind, it looks very strong and very well suited to any application (hence the name of At The Ready), but it's obvious that because of the nature of it's grind it's not gonna be as good at slicing as the Military. However, to me the big appeal of the ATR is the strong lock, and those sexy no-nonsense Titanium handles... HELLOOOO NURSE!

One last thing to throw on the table: I own 2 ~4" Tacticals and no ~3.5" tacticals.

So... help me decide! ATR or Military!?

Keep in mind that there may be up to a six month wait on the appearance of the ATR at dealers.

If it is an issue, the ATR will be 2 times as much as a Military.

I don't think its set in stone but the number I keep seeing is $250

Yeah,Sal said MSRP of 250.00 so that would make the price at most places about 180.00-200.00.I would much prefer the Military.

I like the Military, but I would prefer the ATR. What you get with the ATR is a great design, an integral compression lock, titanium handles, and S30V.

Ok solves that problem...

anything above about $130 is outta the question for me (unless it's a custom).

Military it is!

While we're on the subject of prices, any idea what the Dodo is gonna run for?

Before you buy that Military, you owe it to yourself to check out a G-10 Police with the flat-ground blade (if you can find one).

I compared the two side-by-side, and I walked away with the Police model.

Good luck,
Allen.

allen,

Keen suggestion, unfortunately I have absolutely NO provisions for making that comparison.

The vast majority of my knives are ordered online more-or-less sight unseen, as the only "knife shops" around here are a couple gun shops with a mediocre selection.

Appreciate the idea though!
