Next steel purchase?

I'm almost out of the 10' of Admiral 1075/1080 that I bought back in may, and I'm trying to decide what my next purchase should be. Everyone around here seems to immediately and invariably recommend Aldo's 1084 for beginners (which I still count myself as). But recommendations for 1084 also seem always to come with a recommendation of buying a proper quench oil. I've been very pleased with the results I get quenching 1075/1080 in canola oil, and I don't feel like buying an expensive oil. So if I keep using my canola oil, will 1084 be any better than what I've been using?
I understand that there is a little bit of vanadium and manganese in Aldo's 1084 — does this make it harder to forge or make it in any other way much different to forge than what I've been using?
Also, how much does Aldo charge for shipping?
I'm pretty sure I'll be getting 1084 next, but I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.
Thanks,
Chris

You will be happy switching to Aldo's 1084,the canola will do ok about the same results or better than your getting now.I used canola before switching to McMaster-Carr 11 sec.
Won't beat that dead horse.
Aldo's got good steel and consistant, don't know his shipping cost now.

You may even get better results with Aldo's 1084 in Canola than you've been getting with the Admiral 1075/1080. The reason is that Aldo's steel is higher in Mn than the Admiral stuff which helps deepen hardening.

Call Aldo, he won't do you wrong.

Rob is correct. The vanadium and manganese make the steel easier to forge and HT.

Beating the expired equine, I used olive oil with Aldo's 1084 until I got real quench oil( heat the olive oil to 130 f ) and got great results. the Manganese and vanadium make the stuff almost foolproof.
