Just finished reading this book, and already have niacin (in powdered form) on order.
Due to growing medication shortages the search for alternatives is growing, and besides many other health benefits niacin can completely replace statins, and this while being both safe & cheap.
At least some of you on this forum might benefit also from this little nugget of health-related knowledge.

Niacin, the real story

Niacin (vitamin B3) is a small molecule-made of only 14 atoms-smaller even than the simplest sugar, but this one molecule has profound effects on health: it plays a role in over 500 reactions in the body.
Many illnesses are caused by too little niacin, and many illnesses can be cured with mega doses of niacin.
The authors are advocates of orthomolecular (nutrition-based) medicine, supporting an approach to wellness that involves substances that naturally occur in the human body, such as niacin.
This book makes the case for the widespread use of niacin for the prevention and treatment of health problems.

* How to take niacin, with detailed recommendations on forms and therapeutic doses
* Accurate information on niacin side effects and safety
* Using niacin for arthritis, children's learning and behavioral disorders, mental illness, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions

New addition:

That statins are a big pharma scam is already known among quite a few health professionals, and slowly but surely the public is also catching on.

Niacin can directly & completely replace statins (it was already used for the same purposes over 50 years ago), it costs very little, and you don't have to take it for life like you would with statins.

The only side effect that i have noticed is the flush, which for the most part subsides within a week or two when you take 3 x 1 gram each day.

Niacin also works a lot better than any statin regarding the lowering of lipoprotein alpha (the actual culprit that causes & worsens atherosclerosis) and the lowering of the C-reactive protein, a well known marker for inflammation.

The reasons why i post all these things are the following:

In 2019 i won the jackpot regarding eye problems: retinal detachments in both eyes, cataract in both eyes (thus 2 artificial lenses), as well as glaucoma & anterior uveitis in both eyes.
The national authority in this country on glaucoma (a full professor) told me that if i'm lucky i maybe have 8 to 10 years left before i will be completely blind.
If i'm unlucky, total blindness might even come (much) sooner than that, he couldn't say.
My own eye MD suspected that i also had either a retinal vein occlusion or a retinal artery occlusion, a well known symptom of these is high IOP spikes, which i happened to have.
The eye MD considers an IOP between 11 and 21 mm/Hg as relatively safe for glaucomatous persons, and i regularly had IOP's in the 30's to 40's.
These high IOP spikes caused a lot of damage to my already damaged retina's, so my vision is far removed from what it was before 2019.
My eyesight also fluctuates quite a bit: on a good day i can drive a bicycle, while on a bad day i cannot clearly see the ground i'm walking on, so i have to hold my wife's arm and walk very carefully.
Computer use is also minimized as the LED light is sometimes hurtful.

The pharmaceutical options currently available to me are only combatting the symptoms like IOP-lowering eye drops (i still use these) and a bypass drainage surgery (Baerveldt implant) which is not acceptable to me due to possible very serious complications.
Since i thus have a real interest in finding actual solutions for my problems i started reading on the US medical database Pubmed (a tip from the highly skilled MD who repaired my retina's)

After a lot of reading and testing one of the things i found was that the combination of niacin & niacinamide dissolved my retinal vein/artery occlusion (without the normally resulting ischemic reperfusion injury, something i specifically aimed for by using the 2 forms of Vitamin B3 together in specific therapeutic dosages) which lowered my IOP with more than half, so i no longer need a Baerveldt implant or any other surgery.
Besides this i also don't have any signs of atherosclerosis in the rest of my body arteries or veins anymore (there is also a strong connection between atherosclerosis and glaucoma), and all that after about only 2 months of using niacin & niacinamide together 3 times a day, but i continue using both to this very day to find out if i can lower the current IOP even more.

I visit my eye MD every 4 to 6 weeks for eye examinations, and both he and my neurologist confirmed what i wrote here.
Especially my eye MD is very interested in how i achieved this, so i of course told him, and he is currently conferring about my case with his colleague eye MD's in the hospital.

Every possible health related substance i post on this and a few other forums i have tested extensively, and i still use each of them to this day.
This goes for niacin & niacinamide, bitter apricot kernels (amygdalin), hydrogen peroxide, stevia, magnesium, Vitamins C and D, and a few others like for instance PEA
All of these substances have multifactorial positive health effects (acknowledged on Pubmed and related scientific publications), and sharing my findings here is my way to possibly help others.

The pharmaceutical complex is not your only option when you have an illness, and i think it's wise to at least also consider natural ways.
Personally i use both to my advantage, and i also learned a few very useful things about various actual pharmaceuticals.
My eye MD is a very busy man (his own specialism is cornea surgery), and he told me it's next to impossible for him to keep up with all the new medical research that becomes available in his field alone.
That is why i offered to sometimes send him links to certain Pubmed research that i think might be interesting for him, and i've been doing that for several years now.
The first info i sent him was about the effects of PEA on a multitude of eye conditions as well as pain management.
Both he and a few of his colleagues told me that they found this very interesting and definitely worthy of futher research.

The things is that to get therapeutic quantities of both niacin and niacinamide in your body you would have to eat very large amounts of certain foods every day.
Powder and/or tablets are the way to go for me.
I'm still on 3 x 1 gram Niacin powder plus 3 x 1 gram Niacinamide powder in a large glass of water daily.

I eat a bag of dried mangoes almost every day for snacks. My doc said it was like eating sugar. I am ignoring him.
I used to chug raw unfiltered honey. There are different types of sugar. Ask yer doc what he thinks about blackstrap molasses... if he doesn't approve, find a new doc.

Depends on the drying process. At least some fruit drying processes add sugar as part of the final process. This site provide a recipe for producing dried mangoes, Note the added sugar in two places during the process, So your doctor is likely correct.
