I sat down with Josh Smith to talk about the history of Niagara Specialty Metals and how we make the steel that goes in to your knives. MKC started working with us just a few years ago and now they are one of our biggest knife customers. A real success story in every regard.

Thanks for posting that, Bob.

As much as I admire the product you put out, how you run your business and treat the employee owners speaks volumes to my mind.
Kudos to you and your staff. It's a story to be proud of.

Good interview, Bob. Your reference to the ‘October Surprise’ reminded me of it. Hard to relate to someone just how devastating that was. At the time, I was working in downtown Buffalo, and barely made it home as the storm was really starting to ramp up. It was over a full week before Buffalo was lifted from its state of emergency/no traffic ban, and when I finally returned to work the streets had six to eight foot tall piles of broken trees and branches, piled right to the edges of the roads. It was like driving through hallways. Took years for things to look ‘right’ again.

I’d like to point out to everyone that I’ve known Bob for sixteen years, and not only has he been an enormous boon to my knifemaking path, he’s also been a great friend. In fact, about the only real flaw on his otherwise impeccable character is his friendship with me. 😉

Bob has been a good friend, a straight shooter, and a man that ALWAYS looks to do the right thing. It’s no wonder Niagara Specialty Metals is such a success story, with him at the helm. 👍
