Took it out of the box unwrapped it and looked it over. All looked good very smooth etc. etc.

Tried to slice a piece of paper that was handy and DOH!!! nothing not even semi-sharp tearing.

Looked at the edge it appeared perfect, polished. could not even see any light reflection when looking difectly at the edge. But it was DULL.

About 2 minutes on the sharpmaker fine sticks and it's shaving.

I'm guessing maybe wire edge folded over?

This is the first BM I've bought in a while hope they are not slipping. My 630 is on order

That's atypical these days. Most of their newer knives (at least last year's knives) have not only been very sharp (almost sharp as Spyderco's NIB edges), their finish was performed with a higher grit belt/abrasive than my other knives (including Spyderco) so the factory edge would last longer. Maybe it was hanging out on the shelf since 2001-2002?

I hope it was just a fluke. My USN 630 better be screaming sharp. Sharpest out of the box knife has to be the BUCK/MAYO. Previously my older Microtechs came the sharpest from the factory
