Who else here smells a new knife? I love the smell of NIB Spyders, BM's, and Emersons.

I do and I find it quite interesting that the smell differs so much depending on which country it was made in.

American knives smell like oil.

Chinese made knives smell like burnt plastic and poor recycled paper(this applies to most chinease made things)

Swedish ones smell like cardboard.

Japanease made ones are rather neutral in their smell.(My only example is a Caly 3 CF,though.)

I smell just about everything that comes within my sphere of influence. It provides clues which would otherwise go unnoticed. Its either a curse or a blessing, depending.

The only really strong-smelling NIB knife I've had was the Caly 3. I think if it was the G-10, combined with the lubricant Spyderco uses. The thing smelled similar to the Diesel fuel stank all Military Surplus gear seems to have on it.

Kind of a good smell, but very strong.

Far as cars go--try out the Ozium "New Car Scent" spray. Just DON'T spray it around painted surfaces!

My F1 smelled like leather. So did my Ka-bar.Though my Kershaw Cyclone smelled like CK1.I think the customs guy who inspected it bathed in it cause I bought it new in box.

Chinese stuff tends to smell like our economy going down the toilet in a quick circular motion.
