Titled: Hot User-Grade Forged Blades.

Well written, starts out with Rhea Combat Subhilt, good looking knife, then he goes onto Foster Blue Collars-not the best looking examples of this class from Burt, pictured, for sure, but nicely engaging.

He then discusses the Concept Competition Cutter from Jerry Lairsen, which was not pictured, Jimmy Chin's takedown Bowie which is a smokin' deal, but lacks some "juice" for me. Ed Caffrey's EBK is mentioned next, one of which I own, and it is a super knife, EXCELLENT deal, and just a really useful package. Next up is a Ray Kirk Medicine Blade, and a Gadugi, which is not pictured, don't know what it looks like in the flesh, but Anthony describes it vividly. Have been considering a Medicine Blade for some time, just don't know what I would use it for.

Lastly, he writes about Jerry Fisk's Brazilian venture, the Sendero styled integral, and finishes by touching on makers that he considers to make great forged using knives.

Good article, makes the reader want to see and hold the pieces mentioned, and that is about the best that a knife writer can do. Nicely done, Anthony!

STeven, I had planned on reading that article and forgot. Thanks for reminding me.
Anthony, interesting article and very well written. Have you been published before?
I'm relatively new here, so sorry if it's a stupid question.

Thanks for the compliments.
I am pretty disappointed that all the knives didn't get pictured because its is surely a hassle for the maker to make knives specifically for the magazine, have the blades live at my house for several months and then not get pics in the book! Blade decides what pics to run and they cannot put them all in I guess..its a recurrent theme in all magazines...

At any rate, all the knives portrayed are good ones and good values.

Kevin,
I have been dabbling in magazine writing for about 10years and used to be more prolific (Mostly writing in Tactical Knives) but as of late I am happy to write just a few articles a year and feature custom and production knives and makers that I really admire.

Thanks for the compliments.

If more makers would routinely have more examples of their work professionally photographed, this would not be a problem.

I really look forward to reading this one Anthony - sounds like my kinda topic.

Anthony's articles are some of the ones I like the best, because they are written by someone that is knowledgeable and not an industry puppet.

Burt makes terrific knives with some of the best sheaths I have seen.
I like that green micarta. That knife cut quite well even though the blade is on the thick side for a small belt knife. I mostly used it in the kitchen and it stayed pretty much razor sharp for quite a long while. While that knife is fine as a "hunter", I see it more as a "personal" knife, a small everyday-utility fixed blade.

I prefer a bit more of a guard on a pure hunting knife and also thonghole, but those are just my preferences.

Thanks for this information, gentlemen - I searched out a few mentioned and ended up ordering a Lairson Competition Cutter - can't wait to cut something with it.

STeven, I've also thought about the Medicine blade for a while. A big bolo I snagged off "that auction site" from Ray Kirk is one of my favorites.
