Nice Buck knife Find

Tom, as you most likley know, these 105's were an limmited issue of 200 total that were made for the 10th anniversary of the BCCI. I have noticed this before, but there appears to be some variation to these knives. Mine has red handles with black spacers and there is another one currently on ebay that also has black spacers while yours has blue and white spacers; yours also appears to have more of a palm swell to the handle that mine and the other one of ebay. The blades appear identical. It always amazes me how light weight these knives are. Good catch!!

Tin Sue: I don't have this one in hand yet, but when i do i'll take more pictures. I think the blade says 1 of 500 on the fancy etched side and on the opposite side it's marked Pilot Run 1 of 48, so do you know if only 48 of these were actually made?
I also have 2 of the other 105's you mentioned with the red handles w/black spacers, i'll probably sell one now because i got this one. When I get it in hand i'll compare the handles to see if the palm swells are different.

Your eyes are a lot better than mine (or perhaps you have a larger monitor :)); it looked to me like it was 1 of 200. That being the case then, these are two different offerings, so my bad!! No, I don't know if there were only 48 produced, but I'll bet Joe or someone else far more knowledgeable than me will be along to tell us both.

I found a quote from Joe Houser:here it is

If I remember right, the etching room started doing the gold etch on those blades and had done 48 of them with 1 of 500. I caught that and told them we were only doing 200. We considered those 48 to be our Pilot run or "practice" knives.

Tom, very nice find.... Mine don't have the etching on the blade... If you sell one of your other ones that you have two of... Please let me know, I might be interested in it... Thanks, ITE

Nice Lucite, I recall that Buck got their new handle material from the same factory that supplied them in the 1940s & 50s.
