had an enjoyable hunt, even with deer numbers down and the day being a little on the cool and windy side

I worked out a lot of rough country that normally holds deer, w/ no luck. After a couple of miles w/o seeing a deer I finally spotted a couple of does working a creek bottom, having a doe tag in addition to my either sex tag I started working that way. They were in a tough spot and I tried several sneaks but they were moving so none worked out, I finally got ahead of them and got setup. A doe came into view and just as soon as she stopped I was ready, while watching the doe I caught another deer in my periphery assuming it was the other doe- I peeked thinking maybe she was a little larger, much to my surprise it was a buck that had slipped in somewhere- that changed my plans and I took the buck instead.

I was quite a ways back in and needed to go back for a game cart and decided I'd get my grandson to accompany me. As we got closer to the kill site I had him go ahead and instructed him to tell Papa if he saw any deer. As we edged nearer he suddenly froze and slowly turned towards me very wide eyed and pointing ahead- priceless! :)

he helped Papa pack the deer out, perfect ending to a great hunt
