I don't know about you folks, but next after a nice fancy custom or a well used stock model, I like finding oddballs or ones that slipped though with a slight "oops".

Last week while surfing the 'bay, I saw this one and thought something looked a little off, but the picture wasn't so good. After trading a few email with the seller asking some questions to verify what I thought I saw, I bought this one and got it today.

It's a 2008 110 that slipped out without a year stamp on the tang.

Knife is a perfect 110 otherwise, sharp as a razor and fit and finish is perfect and came with a nice black leather sheath.

I dig stuff like this, and don't consider these as negatives at a company, ANY manufacturer can have this stuff happen and I think they enhance the joy of collecting! :D

...Good eye BCCL and nice snag. These, I feel, are almost the best kind of "collectible"...It's not like yer gonna have a whole buncha folks go out and buy one because they see we call it a "collectible" here in the forum......This is almost a "one of" even if there are a few more around somewhere...LOL... I do bet there will be a few people looking a bit closer at the auction pics in the future...:p...

I just lucked out, I've been knocking around the idea of getting a110 with each year stamp for my collection, and whenever I can't fully read the stamp in an Ebay picture, I just ask the seller "What symbol is just to the right of the "110" on this knife". I do it probably 2-3 times a week.

When this seller responded "None", I was like "WHAT?"

...Its great to come up with an "oops" knife when you can find 'em...My only "oops" knife is the BCCI 110 that I got from the Club a couple years back that has no finger-grooves...:)

Nice find! 334 swears he seen a wallmart 110 with NS bolsters..Are you going to edc it ?

You need to find an engraver in your area...Not the electric etcher-pencil POS; but the guy with the mallet and the engraving chisels...and have him engrave this symbol next to the "BUCK"... :D

(It's the Chinese symbol for "The Year of the Rat"...2008)

Great catch, Bear Claw - I wonder what Buck could come up with as far as an explanation?

Ever since I was a kid, when I discovered a penny that was an error, I've had an eye out for little quirky things like that.

I've got a couple of old knives with funny little "mistakes" on them, and on my desk, I've got a jar full of little goofs like your knife - a MAC-brand flatblade screwdriver marked "#2 Phil."; screws with no slot/no threads; a .357 shell marked .38 Special; A Craftsman screwdriver handle - not bored, no driver blade installed; a large steel washer that obviously bounced around the stamping machine and ended up with 7 crescent shaped pieces cut out of it; and more.

Drives my wife nuts that I keep that stuff, but it sure makes for interesting conversation.

thx - cpr

Great catch, Bear Claw - I wonder what Buck could come up with as far as an explanation?

It happens, I have a 1975 Case sleaveboard large jackknife that got out of the factory with 1 blade stainless and one blade carbon. I sent pictures to Case and they didn't make that knife in stainless that year, but they did make a single blade jack with that blade in stainless then. Near as they can figure, a piece of stainless stock was still in the machine when they switched over from a run of the one to the other and tada...a knife got a stainless blade that shouldn't have.

On this Buck, if I had to hazard a guess, going on the simplest explanation is usually the best one, I say since it's a January 2008 knife, that as they were switching over from the 2007 stamp to the 2008 stamp, some blades slipped though without getting stamped for 2008.

well ... there is a thread from years ago...
Joe and some one at buck wandered what the blades looked like with out a year mark.. so they put the mark on the back of the blade... did more then jest a few.. well after showing them around put the blades in the line to go in to knives.. this is the famous 'T' for 2003.. Joe put a 'grin' and smilley face and said ...well yes we did ...and then said one of two things guess you all can find them or got some thing to look for.. i cant remember which..
like one year there was a inverted stamped small fixed blade...
another year on one tens there was to be one dash and some had two dashes for some odd reason...
seems these happen and we dont know if these 'jest happen' or if there may be some planing to give us some thing odd to look for!
any way it is fun !

yup it was .. 1992... i have seen both and like the twin dash better!
i am trying to find one of those no year mark knives as i have said i dont like year marks..
that tang could become my new avatar!! :D

Bear, I stumbled into one back in Jan. (112) and e-mailed Joe H. about it. He told me that there was a snafu with the stamping dies not arriving on time for some of the model runs and the decision was made to continue with production and not wait on the dies w/ the correct year stamping. Larry O. also found this about the same time I did among different models. So, I guess the loop had a missing link. Anyway, I think there unique and worth collecting. You know just any ole reason to justify buying another Buck. DM

well i got one coming!!!!
seems i managed to snag the last one they had according to the email !!!
they are contacting differing disturbers more for more with that box date..
next question is was this only a days reduction?
and a estimate of how many may be like this
they said a large shipment of this box date went to Russia..!

now ya know if i had Joe's job i would make sure there were more "oddities"
to find out there... like date codes on the back or date code on both sides like the double bar one and none on some models..
like the 112 now and then..
btw does any one know if any 112's come up like this ...
that would make bucksways day!!!

they said the "other guy" emailed his box was crushed..
said they would fold mine flat,,
they asked me why some of us would want that knife?
i said it was a case of one boy getting a new toy and
the others want one also!!
got it in hand! yep it is one to keep and not use..
is great looking with out that dang year mark!
i feel it needs to be on the other side

Well, to add to that, I bought a new 110 at Gander Mountain today, and the package has a "01/28/08" date, which is two weeks after my first one, and I just cut it out of the clamshell, and yep...

No date code on it either!

Does look kinda cool!
