My dad almost always has a knife on him - he turned 80 last week. I have bought him several. A couple years back on a whim I bought him an inexpensive Buck SS gentleman's folding knife - I don't remember the specific model. Or even the exact blade length. Probably something like a Buck College. The other day he mentioned he had lost the Buck SS knife. He had carried in his pocket to a retirement banquet (yea - even to a suit and tie affair - I said he always carries one) and thinks it fell out of his pocket in the parking lot when he pulled his handkerchief out. He said he used it to open his mail everyday and carried it to church etc. Said he should have had a lanyard on it - I don't think it had a hole but he thought it did (he is probably right since I don't remember much about it. My wife and I have already got him a nice X-mas gift but I would like to get him an inexpensive replacement.

I was thinking around a 2" blade folder, SS or other kind of dressy handle material (e.g. not black plastic), no clip - I think it makes it to think for is dress pants, but I think he would like a lanyard hole. Say less than $40. I like the Kershaw Chive looks/quality and size & it is USA made - but I am not sure at 80 he would really like the assist feature. I think it may kind of make him uncomfortable with that blade popping up so quick. I was thinking may be like a CRTK Pazoda 2 or Pazoda (but not sure about CRTK quality). I would sure like some recommendations/input - want to get something ordered in the next week or so.

Case make several small lockbacks with all stainless handles, most are sub $40 I believe, and USA made of course. :)

If you could spend a little extra get him a crkt swindle if you can't then maybe a buck noble man,a case sway back jack if he likes traditionals, or a spyderco kiwi with stage handle or ss handle I carry all of those as a dress knife and I also edc them whenever

The small CRKT Centofante Tribute its super easy to open as well. I've gifted three away, awesome gentlemen's folders and the build quality was done right on this one because the design was so good.

Sal Glesser, CEO of Spyderco, developed this one...for men, of course. He also developed the LadyBug.
Here is the ManBug.

Here's a forum link discussing blade-steels that it comes in...

You can google "Spyderco Manbug" and see lots of pics. Looks like $40. Maybe you can get it from one of our supporting vendors.
It fits in a man's pocket and is a bit larger than the LadyBug. It has a "hole" for a keyring or perhaps a lanyard.
I bought the LadyBug for my wife; she loves it. I have no experience with the ManBug, but there are plenty of supporting dealers in the Bladeforum link that I included below:

My best regards to you folks and to your dad...and Merry Christmas.

ManBug - I think I might put one of those on my x-mas list. I just lost a small Spyderco Byrd on Saturday. I carried that small Spyderco to the office since it was only like 1.75" and looked pretty non-threating.

I had considered a small rosewood Buck lockback - have one but I don't carry it much. Kind of hard to open.

I wanted a lockback Kiwi but never got one - I don't see them listed for sale now. Now it looks like they are sliplocks - I see DogLover suggested one of those or a nobleman. How are those Kiwi sliplocks that may work for dad?

That Cenrofante is interesting - keeping that on the list for dad. Along with the Pazoda 2

Whenever I see "cheap" and "gentlemans folder" in a thread title I always stop in to mention a few knives I love but are relitively unheard of-
Both Boker's, a exkalibur (in G10) and the exkalamoor (wood). They offer a traditional look, including nail-nick, but modern performance including a liner lock and one handed opening. Both come in smaller and larger, however I think even the smaller ones are near 3".

Great knives and if my dad was still around I'd give him one, i have a spyderco i've customized for my father-in-law this Xmas but I may also get him an exkalibur yet still since I want him to have a good user, and I'm not sure he's going to want to carry/use my custom.
