Like some of the other folks here, I've always got an eye out for well-made traditional folders with premium materials. Short of going the custom route, it seems to be increasingly difficult to find nicely done non-tactical "pocketknives" made with decent steels and natural scale materials. Sure, I realize that the William Henry studios are putting out some great pieces in this category, but sometimes I get an itch for something with a more classic appearance. I got an e-mail yesterday from A.G. Russell's Knife Collector Club that featured this piece
it certainly looks like it might be worth looking into. 154CM locking blade, jigged bone scales and nickel silver bosters & inlay
it sounds like it may be a winning combination. I'd actually have preferred a carbon steel like D2, but 154CM is miles ahead of the "surgical stainless" steel that is often seen on this type of knife, IMHO. Normally I'm not much of a fan of "commemorative" knives with etching/writing on the blade, but I find this one to be fairly tastefully done
of course, as an expatriate Texan I may be a little biased
. Has anyone had a chance to handle one of these knives? I have the utmost confidence in A.G.'s products and satisfaction guarantee, so I've just about convinced myself to take the plunge and order one. I guess the Holiday season just has me in a frame mind to appreciate traditionally styled artifacts (how's that for a convoluted rationalization for the purchase of another knife?
).
