The regular one reminds me so much of the original bowie knife (basically.. with a more modern full tang style handle).. The one Edwinn Forrest made for Jim. So sexy.. they also have a really good balance to em. I can't wait to chop on something now.Nice! I just grabbed a virgin MountainManDu from the Busse exchange.
That’s why I got it. I wanted the original Bowie style (as you mentioned the one that Bowie himself gifted to Forrest) that’s pretty much impossible to break. I hear that first production run MMD’s are among the strongest knives ever built. The regular one reminds me so much of the original bowie knife (basically.. with a more modern full tang style handle).. Ya know I honestly wouldn't doubt that.. some of Jerry's heat treats take the better part of 3 days I've read. I'm glad I wasn't the only one seeing the similarities there. I have the Bark River (basically a replica) of the Edwinn Forrest Bowie and side by side (to me at least) they look like long lost cousins. That’s why I got it. How do like BRK Edwin Forrest Bowie?Ya know I honestly wouldn't doubt that.. some of Jerry's heat treats take the better part of 3 days I've read. Very very sharp. I wouldn't want to beat on it though. (Kind of a rant about another of their bowies lol) I whooped on BRK's V-44 Bowie (nice burl handle one) and stuff started coming loose. Still haven't sent it back to fix the handle liners that cracked during the incident in question.. just general alignment of it being kinda jacked and the handle took a bit of damage.. blade chipped during batoning. Blade is great though for cutting. (Back on the Edwin Bowie).. edge geometry is super thin. I feel like my EFB is a great slicer, whereas my sawmandu would chop and baton a car door off. Same knife~ish.. but also very very different knives. I feel like if your gonna whoop one of theirs you need to jump on a leather stacked handled one. Those I feel like you could smash on pretty good. How do like BRK Edwin Forrest Bowie?
That being said though the Sawmandu/MountainManDu with a fhfg grind is gonna be pretty thin behind the edge (for a busse) as well. It'll cut nice tooVery very sharp. Interesting. I just got a 1909 Michigan Bowie from BRK w/ the black micarta handle. I haven’t even taken it out of the box. I hope it can withstand heavy use. The MMD I just got is saber grind and .280 thick. I don’t think it can broken from conventional means. I can’t wait to try it out.Very very sharp. I wouldn't want to beat on it though.
