Uncle Bill, I am impressed!!

I didn't realize you had a web site until I saw the address posted to someone else in your reply to him.

I have just spent over an hour looking around in it and it's great! The pictures, stories and general information has really broadened my understanding.

Thanks for the great resource!

Thanks Big. I am doing something wrong. You are a frequent and very welcome member of the forum and if you didn't know I had a website this tells me I am lax in some areas.

What should I do -- sign with a link to the site? In a way I hate to do that.

Uncle Bill

How about this Uncle?
Would this be unethical do you think?
I don't post in every forum.Just the general and Shopsmith and occasionlly the non specific one.
Of course that could change anyday.

I will take it out of my signature until you approve.

Something about the HI site that's worth noting: on most sites selling any kind of "regional crafts" the "feel" you get is that these are "generic exotic people", regardless of region we're talking about.

Now go to Bill's site. For the most part, it's more like a "family photo album" - rather than "here's some guy from a mysterious foreign land" it's "here's so-and-so, he looks kinda asleep" (referring to the several Ghurkas standing in full camos). Nothing "generic" about it - these are specific people linked somehow to HI. Mostly, anyhow...there's a few shots of soldiers in combat wearing Khukuris but those aren't the norm.

You won't notice it unless you're looking for it, but the "feel" you get off the HI site is radically different.

This brings up something I have wondered about for a while. Why isn't the HI web site listed in the Bladeforums links?

I am doing something wrong when people tell me they have been visiting our forum for months and didn't know HI had a website.

Any suggestions for improvement in this area will be most appreciated.

Uncle Bill

I don't think it would be out of line for you to put a link to your page in your signature, Uncle Bill.

Bill, I agree that putting the URL in your regular sig is perfectly proper. I put mine in by hand on the forums only where it "feels appropriate", such as a political debate thread or a thread on California knife laws.

By now, most people know I have a website...broadcasting it on the HI forum doesn't "feel right". Just to show how I do mine, I'll put it here:

Bill,

Go to "profile" via the link under "post new topic" at the top of the page. Choose "edit Profile" and input your signature.

I hope that addresses the problem you're having. If not, can you supply more specifics.

Continuing from Howard's instructions, you add the url to your sig by beginning with the word url enclosed in square brackets [ and ] then (with no spaces) your actual url and close with the same url bit, but with a / between the [ and the word url.

Click on the icon for "edit this message" to see what I'm talking about. Anybody can see how this is done with that icon, but most of the time nobody could actually modify my message except me. In your case, Uncle Bill, you are the moderator of this forum, so you might actually be able to save a modified message, but here you just want to see how it is done.

As you can see from my sig, you can do the same with email.

Bill,

When you're posting your reply, are you checking the little box that says "show signature" under the box where you type the post?
