These little gems are shipping out soon. I'd love to see what everyone will be doing with them.

For mine which is a nice big old ++10inch bladed W2 getting expertly I repeat expertly Ht'd by the man himself and will be getting Parked or coated and then put in a simple durable abuse proof milled G10 handle with no hardware. Something Idiot proof and durable for the Use/Abuse I intend to put it through.

What everyone's plans for these?

I haven't fully formulated my plan for the blank I bought. I'm thinking about changing the angle of the tang, grinding along the same curved line he forged into the blade, and leaving the ricasso and the area above the grind "textured". Probably going to use stabilized burl as the handle material, perhaps some brass fittings.

Haha, good stuff Peter! :) I got your big blade heat-treated Saturday--- I'll love to see how it turns out! :)

Greg, feel free to saw or file it however you please... it's been thermal cycled so that it will be easy to cut/file/drill/grind. My one comment on the marker though is to not cut the tang down that small. It will require more work to do it, and will not be as strong as if left wider. :)

This is how I shape mine-

Thats a great idea Petah, get a blade and build it as you see fit. Nick, is that forging photo typical, im guessing you left plenty more "thickness" in the blanks?

Damn - this is what I get for not visiting BF for a couple days - I completely missed out on all of the Wheeler blanks! Won't make that mistake again - this is now my homepage.

I did a Nick Wheeler blank once!

Funny enough, the handle material came from Petah!

Not 100% positive exactly what i am doing yet, but i see a wicked hamon in the works! I can tell you after tonight...I probably won't ever use copper for a guard again lol.

Mr.Wheeler That is awesome! I will send you an email soon about payment and I need a bit of advice on finishing.

Matt, that one Greg bought was left a little thicker than one I'd be finishing myself. Usually, I would have forged the bevel out thinner and the point a little "pointier" ;) I think forging them all down real thin could be a little intimidating for folks that have never dealt with a piece of hammered steel before. All the other blades I put up were forged thinner, and I'm really hoping nobody has any issues with all the bevels/tapers and lack of flatness other than the ricasso. :)

I pulled the plunge line back and removed the rest of the forge scale. I decided to go with the more traditional look, since I had to do some reshaping here and there. I still need to clean things up a little, but I like the lines Nick hammered in.

A little teaser to give you an idea what I have in mind. This is one I'm trying to do something special with.

As you can see, I'm trying something a little different. Not sure yet what the final shape will be, but I'm thinking of doing some shaping/carving on the ivory.
