I picked this up from a good friend here on BF. I've read a lot of positive comments about Nick's work, all of it is true. This is a stunning knife.

3 7/8 blade of 1084, 3 1/2 edge, 8 1/4 overall. SS guard, Black Ash contoured handle.

Very nice.
That would make a great little back pocket carry with the appropriate sheath.

It's always a pleasure to see one of Nick's knives. This one is another fine example of the great work he does.

That is a slick little scalpel and a really rare find - enjoy!

That is a sweet little knife! It is a beauty!! Congrats!! I REALLY like that!

Hey Erik... I'm only a little dead :D :p

Matt, I'm glad you got this one... please feel free to paste that email if you still want to. :) This is one of a very few knives that have spent that much time in my hands... AFTER being made :)

It looks like it grew some spots on the blade and choil... like I mentioned, I'd be happy to clean it up if you want. But I suppose with Bass guts on it, you'd never notice the spots ;) Your call :)

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm happy to hear Matt will be putting this one to use and hope to hear any feedback he has to offer when he gets a chance.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

Thanks again for your time Nick. This should clean up the smallies nicely!

Here's some background on this knife from Nick. This is added with his permission.

"I actually remember that knife very well, and here's why-

This knife has really had quite a life... I made the blade (1084) about 4 years ago to demonstrate forging and grinding to a student. After heat-treating and finish grinding it... since it wasn't an order, I decided to use it in my shop.

I abused the heck out of it cutting everything a knifemaker cuts in a shop.... leather, boxes, sand-paper (ouch! ;) ), lunch :D..... used it as a scraper. I did not, however, use it as a screwdriver :D

It went in my back-pack with me down into the mud-flow from the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption, it went UP the mountain with me, it went all around the hiking trails on the Washington and Oregon hiking trails.

Finally I decided it was time to clean it up and send it on for other duties. So...I refinished the blade, tore the old eucalyptus handle off and replaced it with the black ash handle... and took it with me to Atlanta in 2007 and sold it. :)

And now it's in your hands, and I'm glad you like it Matt! :D

Purely based on looks, it could afford to be a touch more "curvey" BUT... as far as using it, I love the slender clip point and the knife carries well (for me anyway :D )."

I can tell you already, this is one of the knives that'll haunt me forever, as to why I got rid of it. But, since I already had one bigger user Nick Wheeler knife, my feeble brain thought this one was expendable. I'm already starting to smack myself about the head and neck region for my stupidity.

Congrats Matt !
Pretty cool seeing one of Nick's knives, far too few of them around.
Good background story to go with it.
Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Doug :)
