Dear Buck Forum Members:

Have a couple of Buck 110 knives with NS bolsters. One is in my EDC rotation, but I have not been as hard on it as others and it is a realtively new addition to me. Low miles.

Here on this forum, and other places, I have heard that these bolsters sratch or chip easily.

Can someone please post a picture or a link of pic where an example may be seen? I would like to observe this in consideration of future ownership of such.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kindest Regards,
Goose.

Dear Sir:

In regards to your request for pictures, I am sorry to say I cannot comply, as the knife and a quantity of pocket change were in my jeans pocket when the scratching took place. As you can surely appreciate, lighting conditions are not conducive to good photography in Levis pockets.

Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Mr. Chickentrax:

Thank you for your quick reply. While I appreciate your note, it saddens me to know that you had to endure, and perhaps continue to this day, such a situation. Living each day with a faithful and beautiful tool being scarred due to your innocent, though neglectful, action must truly be a burden full of guilt and remorse.

While perhaps not as troubling as your scratched NS bolster, I too, live with an EDC that has been cosmetically damaged. If I had only been astute enough to have adhered a felt piece to my inner sheath snap, my 95th Anniversary HD 110 would still have its' remarkable coated finish on her liners. Each day I ask myself, "where was my fellow Buck forum member's tip when I needed it?". It seems we both share a common guilt of having committed domestic Buck abuse.

Given the situation that lead to the current condition of your NS bolsters, can you, or others that may be reading this, advise me of the truth regarding a terrible rumor that I have heard? Is the NS coated on the bolster and, being plated, prone to chipping, peeling, or scratching to the point that the base metal is exposed?

While horrific, your sad experience can hopefully assist me and others from preventing a similar traumatic situation. A situation where the scars will remind you of your abuse each day of your life.

Again, thank you for the time to draft your reply. I wish you and your scratched 110 many years of healing in your relationship. Treat it well, and you will be rewarded in kind.

Sincere Regards,
Goose.

Goose, I don't believe that the N/S is plated on...I had an abused 112 N/S that I sent in to Buck for a reblade...it came back looking like new:D. There were a few dings that were deep:( and those were almost gone but still visible. I'm thinking that if it were plated on Buck would have a hard time refurbishing the bolsters. Preston

Preston:

That the NS bolsters are not plated is good to know. Thanks so much for the reply and I hope you have a spendid day.

Kind Regards,
Goose.

Goose - I asked this same question [plated or no] some weeks back. Joe Houser answered that they were solid, not plated, Nickel Silver. ;)

The scratches can be buffed out, too. :)

Thank you ChickenTrax for your follow up. I searched the forum for "nickel" and found several threads but did not come across the one you referenced.
Your attention to detail and kindness demonstrated in your taking the time to reply is appreciated.
Warm Regards,
Goose.
