Nickel Silver bolstered Bucks???

What's the story on these??? I have several 110's and one 112 in NiAg, but I've never seen any Nickel Bucks advertised for sale except by vendors who seem to have special ordered them...NiAg w/green dyed wood, charcoal dyed wood; or normal wood but with etched blades, laser-cut blades, etc. And the Custom Shoppe offers this option, too...

Doesn't Buck sell 110's & 112's with NiAg to the general public as regular production items???

I don't think they do, I think NS bolsters are special order and custom shop options. I have never seen a NS bolstered 110 in a retail outlet.

I've seen them on eBay and just assumed they were a special run. They never seemed worth the extra $$ to me. Plus, if you're going to find blade play in a 110, it'll be one with the nickel silver. The brass bolsters always seem to lock up like a tank. Here's what Joe Houser had to say about this matter in an email to me two years ago:

We do have a range of acceptable movement on the blade because the components we use have variances in their tolerances. A brass 110 will be more forgiving to these tolerances and most of them will not have much play. The nickel silver is not as forgiving and if you going to find a 110 with movement, it will most likely be one made of nickel silver. We have found that it does not affect the strength of the knife at all and to eliminate it completely would be cost prohibitive.

I have 6 NS bolstered ones, 4 from the custom shop and 2 that were special orders, I have carried one of the customs alot and NS sure does scratch easy, I have been lucky so far and haven't developed any blade play, but I try not to twist or pry with the blade.

I generally don't see any NS users, but I have one that had been seriously used/abused. Had WORKMAN on the blade and looked like theprevious owner tried the "cut the bolt" thng. Chip out of the blade. Has the fijii orangewood handles.

I used it in the garage for a long time (before I came here and learned better) and it did great for what I needed. Blade was tight and sharpened up good out past the chip.

After I came here and learned,,,, it went back to the repair team and now I won't use it. Just wish I would have known back then that I could have ordered a BG42 blade for it.

Yes, I think I mentioned in another thread that I used to carry a NiAg 110 as an EDC, until I absentmindedly dropped grocery change into my pocket with it... :(

Was it repaired under warranty, or did you do a "blade upgrade"???

I used to live near the Buck factory when it was in El Cajon, CA. I'd occasionally see nickel bolsters on commeratives and IIRC, collaberative gents folders in their company store. Outside of that, the only other way I ever saw them was by special order from the custom shop.

I have one NS and stag, but its not a user. Now that I know how easily it scratches it'll stay a safe queen.

Got a commerative with nickel and another one with a serrated 440 blade.
Pic of it at http://www.mongoosemarv.com/buck.html

The serrated box says:
110 NS SERR.
B110-SP30-0
CAT. 9405

It's a 2001 and I was wondering what the deal-i-o is. Do you find these "Special Runs" in stores? I have never seen a Nickel in a store unless it was a commerative. But then again, I've never been to Spain. But I've been to Oklahoma. They say the ladies are insane there. But I really don't remember. In Oklahoma, not Arizona...I don't remember.
Paid ~$30 for it.

I picked up 4 of the 110NS SERR. at Galyans when they were making the transition to Dick's Sporting Goods, 19.95 each

Repaired under warranty... Didn't know at the time about blade upgrades. It is sure pretty..
It is the one on the far left. Pardon the bad reflections, They are all nice and shiny.
I kinda like NS

Brass looks nice when polished up but I find that it is a hassle keeping a user polished. Using the knife tarnishes it quickly and I don’t really like the smell of Brass on my hands. I bought my custom to carry it. It is welcome to scratch. We can think of it as a Red Badge of Courage.

Mine got it when I put my Buck knives Zippo lighter in the same pocket as my 110. The irony!:D

Wish they had those at the Galyan's (formally that is) in our area. I've yet to ever see a 110 with a serrated blade anywhere.
