I wish Buck would offer a nickel silver pommel on the 100 series knives. It would be so much classier than the aluminum.

I always thought the aluminum pommels were for weight and balance issues, but they have brass pommels now.

The brass and wood models are what originally drew me to the 100 series, but I'm coming to appreciate the aluminum and phenolic models just because of the weight savings which, on a 119, is pretty substantial. I'm not a huge fan of nickle silver, but I would like to see Buck using solid stainless steel with a high polish for frames, pomels, and guards.

I've loved the look of real silver all my life. Buck has used it occasionally on a few LE's in fact my son had a 532 and you see a few smaller high end folders too. I bet if Buck used it on the 100 series for embellishment it would be extremely popular on a high end series of Limited Editions..When I commissioned my first true Custom 112 David Dowdy used over 2oz in the handle. Precious metals and stones have a long history of use in knives and I would love to see Buck use it for the 100 series. My absolute Holy Grail 112 is one of 3 made in the 80's with a sterling silver frame..

I like aluminum for its true silver color over the yellowish tint of nickel silver.

I kinda agree with you, but often the NS doesn't seem to have that tint, but I think aluminum is softer and scratches/dings easier.
I think i'd prefer SS as well.
I wonder how titanium would be for bolsters?

I guess the aluminum is fine. It only really bothers me on the 124. It doesn’t look right against the stainless tang. So maybe a stainless pommel is what I really want. Then again the 124 is probably heavy enough already.

Prior to about 72/73 the pommels and guards on 124's were stainless. The phenolic handled ones were for sure.

I have a 640, which is a dressed up 124. I need suspenders to wear it lest I want to look like the kids at school...

I'd enjoy a 102 or 118 with NS though.

The 640 with Nickel bosters weighs over 18oz, the basic same knife 124 with aluminum weighs 13oz. The nickel is just flat out heavy. Great knife, just a hefty.

This little Camillus/Buck 309 from 1972 has stainless bolsters.

I wouldn't have thought the NS parts on that weigh 5 oz by themselves, but never weighed any of that to be familiar with it.
