Looking for a source for Nickel Silver. I'd like to find some place with a good selection but right this moment I'm looking for barstock in 1/4 x 1 1/2. I've checked knife and gun, Jantz, Sheffield, texasknife, pops, ebay and a few more without luck. I don't mind buying in quantity. Any leads appreciated.

Thanks

Rob!

I've used washita in the past - and been happy, but only one size bar stock showing now. (Good selction of Rod stock though)

Still loooking...:)

Pops is a good one. I looked there and hadn't found it. Now if only I could figure out where he gets it. :D

Thanks much.

Thanks Fitzo

Prices on the big sheets there are more than Pops prices on the small sheets. Good source though. When nobody else has what you need, these guys have a good selection.

Added to the list.

Thanks

Rob!

YW, Rob! Sorry, I never even thought about checking pricing! :foot: Capitalism at its finest, eh? Gouging, more likely.

Metal prices won't stop skyrocketing. Good time to stock up, isn't it?

Online metals has a great selection but they are a bit pricey. Then I have to pay WA sales tax and I don't get any price break on shipping either even though I am only 80 mi. away from them.

I have some stock in 416SS but I have not used it. Many of my customers are switching to it as NS becomes harder and more expensive to get.

What are your thoughts on the 416?

Voices of experience appreciated.

In particular, how is it for soldering to SS?

Rob!

I like it quite it a bit, Rob. I use it as a standard now for guards, ferrels and buttcaps. As far as soldering to SS, I can't answer that question, I have never had the occasion.

IMO, 416SS solders tougher than nickel silver, easier than 300 series SS. If you have difficulties, try Eutectic 57 (157??) solder and flux. Best stuff going.

I personally like 416SS better than anything for guards. It machines great and satin finishes great. It takes a beautiful mirror, but you have to work at it since it's a lot harder than nickel silver. If you pin guards, too, make sure and get 416 pinstock. Some places sell 410 and it's not the same color.
