nicks and scratches

I sometimes get a few scratches and scuffs on my knives. I am not afraid to use them; for thats what I think they are for. I do not abuse them , but I feel a quality knife is ment to be used and not looked at. How do you feel about this ?

it's ok and it gives the knife some character.but that being said, some of my knives are "collectibles", so I wouldn't want scratches on them - to preserve the value, and so that I can recoup as much cost as I can should I sell/trade them.

on my users, I won't bother about scratches. they're like brand new sneakers...when they all clean and shiny, they're not nice.

I wouldnt use a collectable for something so vile such as cutting things :D . Anything else, I dont mind nicks and scratches as long as the nicks arent so bad that they interfer with the knife's ability to cut and or require radical reprofiling.

I eventually sell/trade/give away most of the knives I pick up, so I like to keep a knife as close to mint as possible until I decide whether it's a keeper. Sometimes I have to use a knife pretty hard to decide, but usually not. Once I decide to keep a knife, there's not much point in worrying about wear marks - there's no way to avoid them.

I won't buy a knife I don't intend to use and I won't buy a knife in hopes of selling it later for profit. Nicks and scratches are fine by me.

I used my serial numbered Busse to chop downa sapling, just for fun. Sure, some knives are collector pieces, ut all of mine are users. I dont have enough money to buy knives to just put in a safe. :D

My name says it all. Use it, ding it, and add natural wear - in my opinion that's what knives are for.

Practical Use

The nicks and scratches on the knife I can live with, the ones on my finger...well, thats getting old! Currently have 2 bandaids.

I am constantly with a knife in my hands. I sit at my desk all day in my office and my knife is my stress relief!

With 100's of open/closes, I sometimes get careless and nick the flesh a bit...oh well, must stop typing so I can open and close the EDC.
