I've been looking at a Nieto Knives Navaja Linea Wasp with Cocobolo handles... Anyone have any experience with this brand? I hadn't heard of them until recently.

15 years ago i had a large Nieto bowie with serrated spine, about 15inch overall length.I found this knife to have very soft steel, with very poor edge retention. It was made of stainless steel-can't remember exact grade.I would call this rather affordable knife serving its purpose ok,but far from premium knife.Steel was rather lower quality, but sturdy construction lasting long time, able to take on some beating...

The Nieto Wasp is one of the knifes that broke my heart :( I love the lines they remind me of my Le Thiers with a more drop pointed blade and the steel seems to hold its own. its only flaw is the Lock is softer then I like. that being said prior to buying the wasp I accumulated a Manolina it has a spot in my rotation and I find myself staring at the Navaja Coyote.

It's a slipjoint, right? Are you referring to the lock-up of it? I have a few Buck slipjoints, and they seem a lot weaker than others, but they still seem to work just fine.
