Does anyone own a Nieto knife from Spain? They look beautiful and are using the Bohler N690 steel in many of their models. I’m particularly interested in the Chaman XXL model as a camp chopper but there is very little information out there on these knives.

They remind me a lot of the Joker knives I own but cost about twice as much. Wondering if the quality is much higher than Joker knives. The Joker knives have really impressed me and wondering if the Nieto knives are such a step up that they command much more money. Any input would be appreciated

I have the Chaman Macro, and really like it. There isn't much about Nieto on here except for some posts on their traditional folders. I got interested in the Spanish knives after I got the Vic Outdoor master made by Muela. Then I noticed a lot of the Spanish brands have gray/black micarta with red liners. So I also have a Joker and some Cudeman knives. It got me on a Spanish knives kick because you don't see a lot of them.

On the Chaman, the fit and finish is nice but not perfect. Jimping for example, each "jimp" isn't exactly like the others. It is a solid chunk of steel though. Steel is nothing special on that one, but the XXL has N690. I plan to buy the Chaman Tactical and XXL model in black G10/N690. I don't think the quality is tremendously better than Joker.

I've got a very, very nice Nieto lock back with olive wood inlays that my folks bought me while they were visiting Spain. It's very nicely done, but I have to admit that I don't use it much because of the sentimental attachment to it.

I forgot a couple of things I really like. The sheaths are well made, even if the designs are a little strange. It has extra snaps on the front for a pouch they offer. It has 3 snaps on the back for a strange horizontal belt adapter which seems floppy and useless. Red stitching is cool. Also, the spine is crowned which I really dig.

Thanks for the feedback, it’s appreciated. Really not much out there on these knives so it’s good to hear from someone who actually owns one

Nicely designed (if you like the style) but like many traditionally styled Spanish and German brands they prefer cheap (affordable and well known) stainless steel (1.4116, 440A or B, C and others). If you like the knife, I'd say, just go for it, the steel will hardly disappoint you. I own some Nieto, Muela... I like the style but in the field they are not terrific winners. While i do not need my knives to be terrific winners, I'd rather use a saw or a hatchet that has proven it's worth instead of fooling around with only a knife. So... if you are into Spanish knives , check out Muela, Nieto , Cudemann, Cuchilleria Albacete, Cuchilleria Barcelona, Pallares Solsona and also Böker Plus or Arbolito... and others.

I have a Nieto Camapaña, a $30 slipjoint. Cheap steel, AN-58, but excellent fit and finish. One of the prettiest knives I own. I don't place a lot of importance on looks, but I like to have a few knives suitable for special occasions. The scales are held on by screws and are easy to replace. I can open it without breaking any thumbnails, which is a problem with some of the slip joints I have. It closes with one hand. I have never used it for feather sticks or batoning.
