I've been up since 0230hrs, now 0500hrs reading the posts and the information on the HI webb sight. I was by chance [if there is such a thing] browsing this site the other day and ordered a M43 on the "special of the day". I am very pleased with my opportunity. I feel as though I'm entering a new "world of appreciation". I always enjoyed the mystic of the kuhkri and I am anxiously looking forward to my new purchase. I have a special feeling of warmth knowing the good that is passed to the makers, [kamis ??] with my purchase. I am especialy touched with the kindness of Uncle Bill and his efforts to improve the life of Nepalese people[speeling?]. I would like to think in a small way I'm contributing to this effort. I hope to be accepted by this "family" at HI and look foward to many posts with you all.:)

Sam,

Welcome to the Cantina. ... pull up a chair, pop open your favorite and join in the bull sessions :D

Yes, there is something special about the khuks, kamis, and the life they breath into their blades.
Each and every one of mine has its own personality. ...

Of course, it is a forgone conclusion that you will be infected with HIKV. ... so the M43 won't be your last khuk :) . But that's okay. .. the condition is treatable with all the different types of khuks available from Uncle Bill and the kamis :p .

Remember, it is tradition to post a field report on your new acquisition when it arrives (after you get warm and cozy with it of course). I keep hearing great things about the M43. ... I'm going to have to get one someday.

:D:D:D

Thanks for the reply Alan. Spearfish is a great place. I've been through there a few times hunting out west.

I promise to give a report. I'm already very interested in a Kobra or Sirupati. Can you or some describe the difference? I have a friend who has been teaching me or rather trying to, "Bando" and have been using a old, no longer made Blackjack 21" Bando approved kuhkri. And that is all I will say, so please don't inquire further. ;)

There will be others around shortly who are more qualified to compare the two. ... I actually have one of each, but the size difference is too much (25" Kobra and 18" Sirupati) for an accurate comparision. For what its worth. ... I like them both, and would say that the Kobra is a bit faster than a similarly sized Sirupati. ... but someone will confirm or correct that statement soon.

I actually used to own two of those 21" Blackjack khuks :) . I lost them in a divorce though. ... but I still have my Blackjack Moran/Warner Bowie :) ! I have been looking around, but haven't located any of the BJ khuks used. That's okay though, it leaves more money available for HI khuks. There are still too many on my lust list :p .

Wow, that's pretty scary to think there is a woman out there with TWO big knives!

Sams

Welcome!

I suggest you be pro-active and go ahead and get a bank loan arranged for the khuks you about to be compelled to buy. :D

Like potato chips, one is not enough. :p

Ask anything you want here. We have forumites who know everything and are happy to tell you so. :D :D :D

By the way, a set of hip waders will come in handy too. ;)

Semper Fi is kinda new here, too, so I won't feel bad about correcting him. Most of what he says is true, but get chest waders - save you a trip to the store. Hip waders are only good on slow days.

Thanks fellows. I think there will be a wish list soon? hell I got one already. Does HI give a line a credit?:D

Sams, Welcome to the cantina! I hate to correct Walosi, but chest waders will only last so long on certain threads (ie The phantom of the Kukura, for instance). It might be a prudent purchase to get the whole wet suit!

As to the HIKV ( Himilayan Imports Khukuri Virus) The only treatment is frequent deliveries of long brown boxes from Uncle Bill. Last July, I bought my first, a Malla, and eleven more have followed since!

I will say you went for the brass ring with the M43! As Alan so aptly put it, it's high on my lust list!

-Craig

Well, maybe for the Phantom Thread (that will give SCUBA a new definition :)) Most of the time, chest waders and a good sturdy par of stilts will do.

Who? Me, wrong? The percentage of possibility of me being wrong would be calculated at quintillions to one. Sort of like Mr. O'Reilly on Fox News. But then again, I might be wrong about that.

Of course, chest waders would add an extra margin of safety.........

:D :D :D

Welcome to the Cantina Sams!!!!:D

I can't add much to what everyone else has said as all are good ideas and applicable to different days just like khukuris.;)

Just beware "The Fellowship" as the Caveman will come along one of these days soon asking you to join and to just have all your khukuri acquisitions sent directly to him to save time. :(

You hit the nail on the head Sams. I'm a newcomer myself. I have to admit I still haven't quite worked out the American sense of humour yet - or maybe it's the HI version - but this forum does have something special. I haven't worked out if its that sense of humour, the comraderie of the forumites, the khukuries, Uncle Bill (who I have found gives great service), helping someone in a country that I believe really appreciates the financial assistance, helping people who are skilled artisans, but whatever it is I am glad to be part of it. :)

Glenn thank you for the kind words. Since you are on the H I threads I think you have good KARAMA. Stick around People are good, if you want to discuss blade shapes, size, and all that, it is ok. Both right and left index fingers were medically dianosed to be amputated.

Stupid knife fights.:(

'Ya know, for as much as we ride Tsimi, you gotta hand it to him on two counts; He isn't afraid to grab the bull by the horns and he's already wearing his wetsuit... :D
