No, it's not the Caveman it is nephew James Standeford testing his latest HI acquisition. Why is the blade black at night? Because it's magic.

Nice pic. What Khuk is he holding? I can't quite tell.

But is it a magic AK or WWII or what?

I think it's an 18 inch WWII magic khukuri but am not positive. It's black at night and a little hard to identify in the pix.

Uncle:

I've had my fun, now it's time for true confessions:eek: ! If it's his new Khuk, I don't have x- ray eyes to tell it's a chiruwa. James told me about it today.
Our work paths crossed and we compared notes. We've both gained a K or two since the last time we saw each other. Just thought the timing of seeing each other and his pic being posted the same day was pretty cool!

BTW he loves it-- I may get to see it this week (Just what I need to get the rash going!! )

Okay, now that that mystery is solved, how about telling us what that is on his head?!?! Looks like a walosi! :D

Wearing a Walosi on his head and carrying a magic khukuri. Now there's a man after all our hearts.

OK, somehow that got past me. What specifically is a walosi?

This is the best hat in the world! It's a United States Army boonie hat complete with Air Assault Wings and a Khukuri pin. I was issued the hat in the 101 Airborne Div. and I liberted it - to give it a good home! The Khurk is a WWII 18 inch Chirwa.;) ;)

Ya get mistaken for Boonie Hats...people put up pictures of tree frogs......

Con, when were you at Campbell? My oldest spent a couple of years there in Air Assault, from about '87 to '89 (too late to wake up anyone with a memory and double check, at present). He was NCO of the month twice, and up for NCO of the year when recruiting bagged him.:(

Hi guys! I was at Ft. Campbell from Oct. 87 to Jan. 9O in the 1/320 FA
Top Guns A Battery. Back then I was a corporal. I've a lot of good memories of Campbell - we lived in the "ghetto" - Leeville on-post housing area. Maybe I knew your son?

Con, he lurks through here fairly often, and posts once in a blue moon - maybe he will drop you an e-mail and you can check notes. I know he remembers Campbell more fondly than much of his USAREC time, although he finally found a fun place there.

Uncle Bill, last time I was on post there, some of the barracks were still standing from the '50s - well, leaning. They hadn't been occupied for some time, according to Wahya, but even though they needed the space, there was no budget to tear them down. He was in a duplex in NCO quarters that had been officer's country in the '50s. Knox, by comparison, was a resort town.

Wal, some of the mil housing of the 50's was left over from WWII emergency efforts and I've seen tarpaper shacks in TJ that I'd much prefer.

Hope the boys can make contact. There'll be a lot of comparing on notes that should be fun for both.

Walosi=Tslagi(Cherokee)/Puhi=Numa(Paiute)

and both go ribbit. How could I forget?

Forget what?
