My current light when hiking is a Fenix LD20. The multiple light modes are useful as I can have the appropriate light level for the task, or for battery preservation.

I also keep a diffuser tip with the light. On strobe, it makes a pretty good emergency beacon.

I keep a Fenix E01 on my keychain. Only 10 lumens but it is always with you. I have a Nitecore D10 R2 that I carry if I know I will need a light. Variable output with 145 lumens max on one AA battery.

Cool pics bro.

I haven't purchased any higher end lights yet. I just keep my Tikka xp headlamp and a mini mag in the pack.

Yesser, Fenix TK10 and a Priceten Tec headlamp, both have seen lots of use now.

I have a Fenix L2D that I EDC. I use it everyday at work and it is a great little light. If I were going to replace it, though, I would look at the new Quark lights.

Capturing a pic that beaver, muskrat or whatever at night with a flashlight and no flash is impressive. Good job.

As far as a back-up flashlight, I assume you mean one that is kept with you in the event your main light fails in some way. I use my nicer light (Fenix or Surefire) for my main light. My back-up/pack light is the PentagonLight Molle loaded with a AA lithium for long storage. In fact, I have a few of them stashed in various places.

When hiking after dark I usually depend on my headlamp for primary illumination.

It’s a cheap Energizer Pro that has six LED and four different settings; I really like the red LED mode for maintaining my night vision.

I always carry one of my Inova LED (T1 or X5) lights as a back up, and often have a tiny but powerful (for its size) Peak Matterhorn as a back up to my back up.

I like my fenix L2D, great little light. Although I don't really use it that much anymore.

I love the Fenix AAA lights. I have the high-end LOD model and the best-buy EO1 model. Both fantastic lights.

My "primary" flashlights are the NiteCore Tactical SmartPD D10 and D20 models, as well as SureFire's G2 and 6P, both with Cree LED conversions.

Stay sharp,
