As a follow-up to my post in the "What did you cut with your Buck" thread I decided to do another lame Buck-In-Action video.

The Nighthawk performed well. At one point I punched the blade too deep and poked a hole in the bottom of the can - bean juice everywhere :o The edge held up well although noticeably duller (I opened several cans). I'm not sure I would do this with something like a 119 for fear of breaking the tip. And I personally would be hesitant to attempt it with my folders unless I was in a pinch.

I know the can opener blade on my SwissBuck would work a lot better, but I was just having some fun :D

you are the official can slayer. :D

now i'm hungry for green beans with butter and lemon.

Messy,
The whole time I watched this video I kept thinking that any minute now I' m gonna see blood everywhere!:D :D :D

I could hardly watch because I knew that if I was the guy doing the job, there WOULD be blood everywhere!
Nice video, thanks for sharing.

Nice video. My sons bought me a Nighthawk for my birthday last year, it quickly became my favorite all-around fixed blade.

Hi Messy,

I kept waiting for the blade to snap on your frozen can of beans.......LOL.

I used to use a smaller lock blade to open cans in a pinch....I just cut through the tin lid like it was a piece of paper...just luck the blade never broke!!!!

i had a nighthawk once. pretty nice knife. i had to reprofile the cutting edge though. it was too "wedge edged" and wouldnt take a keen edge. once i had reshaped it i could get it scrary sharp! i then drilled a lanyard hole at the rear of the handle through the hard plastic part of the handle. it was a good chopper and limb trimmer after the mods! they seem to be very stout as well to be a stainless blade! ,,,VWB.

VWB: The Nighthawk does seem to be a bit wedge edged, but that suits me since I tend to use it for heavy tasks where a thinner edge may get damaged.

Does anyone know if the edge on a Nighthawk is at a different angle than say a 119? Or does the thicker blade just make it appear that way?

that i do not know the answer to. i bought my nighthawk years ago even before buck started the "edge 2000" series. i saw a nighthawk with the "edge 2000" mod and it had a very keen edge, unlike mine. i would say they are probably the same and the thickness makes them look thicker. ,,VWB.
