Nighthawk Tanto - Edge 2000?

After a search of past posts I still could not determine whether the Nighthawk Tanto that I'm looking to buy is an Edge 2000 blade. I'm hoping someone can tell me if this particular knife is indeed an Edge 2000 blade.

The seller states:

...the blade says "BUCK 653n U.S.A." That is a "n" after the number, on the knife it is an upsidedown "U". I bought it Oct. 28.

This doesn't sound like the 'capital "C"' that CJ indicates is the date code for 1999. I'm hoping that the 'upsidedown "U"' is the date code for 2000. Can someone please enlighten me?

Hi C,

The date code you described, an "upside down U", is the date code for 1997. So, it probably is not a Edge 2000 knife. Yet.

The good news is that Buck can upgrade your knife to Edge 2000. I'm not sure what the procedure is though, so I'll let Joe Houser tell you what needs to be done to get the new edge.

Welcome to the forums! Dave is correct that you have the date code for 1997. Back then, we were making the edges on those knives rather beefy. If you would like to have it given the Edge 2000 treatment, send it in, with a copy of this thread, to my attention and i will have it done for you. Usually we charge $5.00 and that covers a complete refurbish of the knife but in the case of your knife, there really isn't anything to do other than give it the Edge 2000 edge.

Thanks Joe! If I do end up buying this particular blade I most certainly will send it in. Even if I do not, I _will_ buy the Buck Nighthawk Tanto...as it's especially good to know that Buck has such exemplary service!
