Hello all. I'm looking for a trustworthy appraisal source somewhere in the New England area. I live in central Maine, and I have three Japanese blades that my father took from a Japanese officer on Leyte Island in the Philippines in WWII.

These blades have enormous sentimental value, so I wouldn't lend them to anyone but the most trustworthy individual. I would like to know their intrinsic value. I have taken them apart gently, and the tangs show an old patina. My late father always thought they were quite old due to the rank of the officer who originally had them. They were not taken from a pile of confiscated blades, but in the aftermath of a combat action. I have some of the officer's other personal effects, such as a "good luck" flag, and a nice carved wooden Buddha.

Anyone in Boston, perhaps.

Thanks for any help or advice on this.

There used to be a guy in Holden, which is just east of the Bangor/Brewer area, that did a lot WWII collecting/selling/trading. I recall stopping in there a few years ago and he had a large collection of WWI and WWII swords from all sides. I can't remember the name of the place, but I will check and see if he is still in business and get you a contact number if you would like. If nothing else he could probably point you it the right direction.
