Hi guys and girls,

What do you think of this camera?

How about some more info on it rather than a simple pic.

In-depth Review Dpreview has the most comprehensive Nikon reviews on the net. Any camera is only as good as the glass you put on the front but Nikon's kit lenses are normally pretty good. Looks to be a pretty good camera for the money but I'm a Canon user.

Hey Chief, you posted the D5000 review by mistake.
I've got the D70 and D300 and am considering the D7000 so I can do some HD video shooting without having to by an HD camcorder and thus have to walk around with both.
I was originally gonna wait for the D300S replacement but have been feeling lately like I don't want to be dumping as much $$ into bodies anymore, at least not right now. The D7000 should be more than able to handle what I need.

It's a very nice camera, one of Nikons latest and the highest end model in their consumer line. If someone can't get good shots with that camera they probably won't with a better one either.

I have a D5000 and love it so from what I can tell, would I the D7000. Win in my book!

I've heard nothing but great things about the D7000. I know one person who owns one and he loves it. Great high ISO performance and full HD video - how can you go wrong.

Call me crazy, but i've always been a canon fan, but I always shoot in film.

My girlfriend has one of these, and she loves it. She won't let me touch it, though. :)

The one thing that the D7000 has going for it is that it's a Nikon, and not a Canon.:D.:p.:D.

I have a D90 with nikon 18-200vr lens, I could not ask for more, very solid camera with outstanding picture quality and controls , it has been through rain and snow, no problems at all. I'm sure that D7000 would serve you well and it's probably more than you can ever need/want for an amateur photographer.

If you go nikon I would go with D90. If Canon Rebel T2i. I prefer canon; They are cheaper, lens (glass) is cheaper, quality is just as good as any of the nikons I have used. (The last one is my opinion and I am sure others disagree but there is a reason why canon sells so many camera.)

Friend of mine is a newspaper photographer, he went to the D7000 from the D90 and D200, says it is a much better camera all around than either of those. He liked his so much he went and bought a second one and retired his D90.

Pretty stupid if you ask me, why would you buy another same camera when the technology changes every year or so. May be he is super rich and just doesn't care then it's another story.

I'm guessing it's because he makes his $$ with his camera that he bought the 2nd D7000 as a backup to the first. Most if not all pros keep at least one backup body. I'm assuming this because he mentioned that the guy "retired" the D90 which I'm also assuming was his original backup to his D200.
I could have sold my D70 a long time ago (and probably should have) but so far it's been my D300 backup when the D300 had to go to Nikon for service.
