Nimravus carried in public?

I was wondering what the laws are on carrying fixed blades over 4" in Maryland. I've heard of some general law that you can't carry a knife that has a blade over 4". I'm very interested in getting the full size Benchmade Nimravus, but will it have to remain a collector's item (sitting at home), or is it at all possible that I could carry it out in public? Also does anyone have any opinions on their new kydex/carbon-fiber-like (actually nylon) sheaths? Thanks in advance.

don't know Maryland laws, but I'm almost positive a 4in blade is legal, even fixed. It is in NH at least I believe...

Ok, let me rephrase this, does anyone out there carry their full size Nimravus out in public, or when they go camping? What are the state laws in your area regarding blade size? If your state laws say 4" or under, does that mean you can't even carry your Nimravus camping or hunting even? Also does anyone have any opinions on the new kydex/carbon fiber (nylon) sheath? Thanks.

Nightglock,

I recently acquired a full sized Nimravus in a trade with a fellow forumite (Thanks BW) and I carry it on occasion. I am not sure of the laws here as I have only been here a short while, but I keep it low profile and never take it out in public.
Mine has the older all Kydex sheath(which I prefer) so I can't help you in that department.
I say get it, you won't regret it. If you do decide to carry it is very unobtrusive and super light(6 oz).
Good luck.

Nightglock, I'm right here with you in the Republik of Marylundt. I have been told that all fixed blades are illegal to carry in public, as are balisongs (the balisong answer I got first hand from a deputy friend of mine; the fixed blade answer came third hand throuh him). I've also been told that any "folding" knife is legal, no length restrictions (hmmm... don't balisongs fold?). However, be aware that FullerH has stated quite a few times here on the forums that any folder with blade over 3 inches in length is illegal in the Distrikt of Kolumbia, which is apparently where he resides.

So, I am forced to carry the Cub, covertly. If you can carry the Nimravus covertly, and really want to carry it, I would advise maintaining a low profile (OK, be covert about it). Which means you won't be able to use it just anytime, right?

Nightglock,

I live near annapolis.

I would not recommend wearing the Nimravus to the local mall or other Sheeple congregation area.

However, I would say that for Hiking, Hunting, etc, etc that you should not have a problem as long as the knife is not concealed.

O_D, small correction. I live in the Commonwealth of Virginia and have the misfortune to work in DC, hence I have my VA carry knives which exceed 3" and my work carry knives which do not. I have no idea what the rules in Maryland are, but a former Federal Attorney for DC was the one who told me that the limit was 3".

Thanks you guys. I'll probably let it sit at home for the most part and either take it or my new Spyderco Moran out hunting/camping. Gonna hit the local gun show this weekend. If there's any further responses, keep them coming. Thanks!

Local gun show?! Where?!?!

OBTW, Hugh, sorry I lumped you into the Distrikt of Kolumbia. At least over there in VA, you're allowed to get a CCW permit (although that doesn't help you where you need it most, eh?)

Outlaw_Dogboy, there's a gunshow in Pikesville, MD this weekend. I have an ad here with phone number 410-391-8883. It says that there's going to be 500 dealer tables there and I've heard that this is going to be a big show.

Ooh, bummer. Little too far out for me. Oh well. Wouldn't have been able to afford anything this week anyway, already blew my knife money. Thanks for the info.
