I am planning on getting a Nimravus Cub. I am also planning on removing the coating. I know that M-2 should out perform ATS-34, but should I get the ATS-34 due to the increased corrosion resistance? I am sure the ATS-34 version is no slouch. What do you think?

If/(when?) I get a Cub, I'll probably go for the M2 version. But then, I've already got a full-size Nimravus in ATS-34 that I've removed the BT2 from and it's awesome. (Although a little dull at the moment. My Sharpmaker 203 never seems to get it as sharp as I'd like...) I'm sure that you'll be pleased no matter what steel you get.

The only very minor beef is with the sheath. For one thing, part of it is carbon fiber printed nylon. I really would have like a full ceoncelex sheath at this price point. Also, I had to remove the annoying keeper strap since it was a royal P.I.T.A. to snap closed with the knife in there, and I like the "quick-draw" effect without it... Plus, you only get the one carry position with the factory sheath.

For a smaller blade like the Cub I'd probably want to get a custom IWB, inverted or horizontal concealex rig done for low-profile daily carry, but then I've never tried the factory Cub sheath on personally.

Well, Dennis, I'm sure as soon as you saw my name come up, you knew what I was going to say.

But, I'm going to say it anyway: M2, without a doubt. Mine's still going strong, with no corrosion. I made a new sheath for it, that I like better than the original. But, otherwise.... nothing new. Works great!

I'm with Rockspyder on this one - 2 stripped M2 Nimravi with no rust. I am still amazed that I don't have any rust on mine, I quit using the tuf-cloth just to see what happens. The M2 steel takes and holds an edge better than any other knife I own. Give it a try - I think you will like it!

Dennis, my Cub is in ATS-34.It came shaving sharp, and holds an edge VERY well, although I haven't subjected it to any rough usage yet. M-2 has quite a reputation, but I have no experience with it. Let us know what you decide and how it works out,OK?

Compared to my M2 Nimravus Cub, my ATS-34 BMs are dull! If ATS-34 has good edge retention, then M2 has phenomenal edge retention! I've heard that the M2 lasts fine without the coating, too.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay me vengeance upon you." Ezekial 25:17-Samuel L. Jackson

M2. From what it sounds like M2 is the stuff. Plus, I haven't been real impressed with the ATS-34 on my full size Nimravus or on other Benchmades I've had. I'm going to buy a M2 model when funds allow.

Do it right,or not at all.

I agree with mr44's criticism of the sheath for the Nimravus Cub and he also makes some good suggestions for improvinf it.
Can anyone suggest a sheath-maker who might have tackled this project??
