Hey

Birthday is coming up and want a new fixed-blade. I already have an Ontario TAK which im very happy with. Only time im carrying a fixed blade is when im backpacking and hiking.

I saw the BM Nimravus cub at the onlineshop where i mostly buy my knives and was wondering what its purpose in life is? I mean it dosent look like an outdoors knive, more tacti-cool if you ask me. But i kinda like it and ill get it for my b-day if i ask, but id like to know what u guys think about it first? Anybody know what its designers were aiming for when they first drew it up?

Every since i saw nutfancy's vid on the 156CSK that chipped in the winter ive been kinda apprehensive about benchmade's fixed blade. I really shouldnt be since ive never owned a BM fixed blade but still...

Other blades competing to be my present are the RC-6 and Fallkniven S1, but my TAK have handled everything ive thrown at it and done real good so i cant really justify getting another outdoors-oriented knife.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm a Benchmade fan, but for outdoors work these two blades you've mentioned will make you throw rocks at the Cub. I've got an RC-6 which I love, but will probably get an S1 or A1 for the stainless sooner or later as well. Great blades.

it's a fighting/combat utility knife, not a bushcrafter. Unless you're taking self defense hand to hand combat classes or frequently find yourself busting down doors in Iraq it isn't going to do anything for you that any other knife can't do.

I aint doing neither, was only looking for a light outdoors knife. I guess i already knew it just by looking at it.

Well, itll have to be a Fallkniven or RAT then.

I have a 140SBT Nimravus that I've thrashed on and its not exactly what one would think of as an outdoor or bushcraft type knife but I've used the hell out of it for exactly those tasks and it works beautifully... My only complaint is that the handles are a touch small for my hands.. The knife cuts and holds a terrific edge and I think the Cub you mention would make a fine outdoors blade and a bit smaller than your TAK. I too own a TAK and it is a super knife also and I wont part with mine. I'd say go buy that Benchmade and put it to use!!

The Nimravus and Cub both make fine bushcraft knives. People tend not to look at then that way, since they appear to be military/LEO type knives. Look past the black blade coating, and you'll see that the blade shape is very similar to lots of well-thought-of bushcraft knives.
Also check out the ZT fixed blades, 0100 or 0121 (not the 0150... that's a double-edged boot knife). Those are similarly styled, in that they look like tactical knives, but they work great as camp knives.
