So I now have two - one gifted me (140SBK) that has an NSN and is mil-issue, and one (140BK) that I picked up as a daily (more or less) user. There is a difference in the tang shape.

Any BM gurus know why this is? Mil vs. civvie, or production year? I noticed the same with the Cubs online - there are at least two tang variations, and one had G10 scales.

The 141 is the tanto version of the standard 140 Nimravus. A little while back they started making them with aluminum scales, rather than G10. They also changed the sheath from a godawful plastic unit with a useless thumblock to a significantly better nylon rig with a plastic insert.

Easily one of my favorite fixed blades, and I regret selling the two I had.

I misspoke the models, and corrected I think.

I was not referring in the least to the blade, I am referring to the tang, look at the two. Both have metal scales, but the one the tang is smooth and even with the scales, the other the scales are slightly smaller than the tang, like the Foray and its scale to liner difference.

The finger choil or whatever you call it, is different as well.

Really hoping someone in the know responds.

Ok, here is a visual aid...

The 140 on top is the newer style. They caught flack for having the tang stick out from the handles like on the older model (bottom), so now they are flush with the handles and that little spike is gone from the finger groove.

I think I might have bought one from you (tan). I agree that it’s one of the best fixed blades, at least that I’ve had. I recently snagged an M2HS version from the Exchange for a good price.

I really like Hinderer fixed blades too and the Bradford G3.

photoman12001 photoman12001 - I like the tan scales - wanted that but the black 140 in the box with three sheaths was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up, and I wanted the BM hard sheath too.

Cypress Cypress - I have found that in the dark/blind/under pressure that the "godawful plastic unit with a useless thumblock" is significantly easier to find and offers no substantial deterrent to deployment. The nylon sheath, and I agree it is nice, offers no rigidity where it needs to be in order to resheath "easier" one handed. And the thumblock, as you call it, provides me a fantastic leverage point to deploy. But this, as yours, is JMO, and I am just a tired old battery operated grunt ;-).

I do like the fact that BM did offer two sheath options, well, one you paid for - best of both worlds IMO.

Now I need to find a plain edge Cub that is not made of unobtainium. Don't feel like paying a king's ransom, and I use my knives, not collecting first editions to save till Ragnarok.

Cheers Brothers of the Edge!

My first Nimravus (D2 in middle above) was a gift before my first deployment to Iraq. I lucked into my other three for about $80 each. The tan 154CM and Cub shown above were about like new. The M2HS is well-used but still a decent deal since it’s a sought-after steel. I would love to get a non-serrated version of the Cub. I just love the ergonomics of all these knives.

All of these came with the nylon sheath (which I prefer) except the M2HS which came with the plastic. Armatus Carry makes a sheath for the large Nimravus. I think I’ll grab one during their next sale. I got one for my Bradford G3 (shown above, red sheath) and it’s really nice.

Resurrecting an old thread…

I have a 1st gen Nimravus I got in 2005. It came with the micarta scales, but I would really like to find a set of the aluminum scales for it.
