Would the nimravus be a good diving knife? My ravus is ATS-34 steel, and is ALL black. I put a neon yellow lanyard on it(in case I drop it on darker corel etc). Also another question...In what area does the nimravus really shine? Police/tactical work? Military use? Or just general all purpose utility(besides chopping obviously).

The nimravus would be a good diving knife as long as your not using it too much for prying. the drop point would be a better utilitarian than the tanto because of it's belly for long smooth cuts. nice knife!

I haven't used my River Rescue for diving, I haven't gone diving at all, but I do also own an ATS34 Nim Cub. I too think that the RR would be more ideal for diving. I have an older 440C model, last year they were offered with H1 steel, the same steel as used in the Spyderco Salt line. The new Benchmade catalog lists the steel as X15, I think.

Also, Sal and his design team are thinking about a fixed blade Salt :)

It's a little thin, dive knives are often used for prying, and simply banging on stuff, and some heft is useful.

I like my dive fixed blade pointed, many prefer blunt tips. The Nimravus is EXCEPTIONALLY pointy though, and would require extreme caution u/w to avoid sticking yourself, your gear, or somebody else. It's tip is also a bit fragile for a dive knife, IMO.

Prolly a good sheath system though, although I haven't handled the new BM sheaths they look like they'd work for dive use.

I know it is a folder, but how about a Spyderco Salt Series, with H1? They DO NOT rust!! And there ARE a lot of dive folks that DO use these knives.
