I just wanted to say, THANK YOU guys and a special THANK YOU to Nimrod for making me feel most welcome to the site and for all your help/info. Now, if I can only find that ONE perfect (smallish) Busse knife.
Something in the order of a full tang,o.a.l. of no more than 8 inches with about a 2 3/4" to about a 3" blade. This smallish knife would be on my belt and would replace my lost Spyderco Endura, which I liked for it's ease of use,but is NOT my first choice for HARD work. I almost cut my fingers when I squeezed too hard on the handle and released the lock! Never again!,I want a FIXED BLADE!
Do I have to contact the Custom Shop for such a knife? (I want serious grips)
Anyway,I ramble...Thanks again all, HARDBALL.

Hardball,

Sounds like a Badger Attack would be perfect, unless you can find a Mean Street or a Lean Mean Street. I believe they have recently been discontinued.Unfortunately.
Give the Busse shop a call. Dave or Jerry will be glad to help. 419-923-6471. Good luck.

Tony

A Lean Mean Street would fit the bill nicely. Watch the for sale forum for a while and I bet one will turn up.

Hardball, from what you state for size requirements, and that you are replacing an Endura with this fixed blade....I'd say you would be very happy with either a Lean Mean Street, or Desert Warfare Mean Street. Either will carry extremely nicely on the belt, without getting in the way. I think you might be able to find one if you post on the Want to Buy forum. You may have to "BTT" it a few times, but you will eventually get a reply. Shoot for the LMS, it's 3/16" thickness will allow it to do anything you did with the Endura(and a whole hell of a lot more

) I'm sure you will end up paying more than the initial retail, as they are no longer in production, and very few were made(100ish??) But if it is within reason, and you feel it an acceptable price, I can almost guarantee you won't be disapointed with the knife, or it's size.
BTW, the LMS retailed for $227 when produced. The higher cost over the standard and DW Mean Streets($197) due to the additional work necessary to produce it. The more work being, grinding the .230" stock(produced for the Desert Warfare MS) to the new .187 thickness.

HARDBALL: Hi there! Climber here (Clif). My Busse Basic #3 is 8 1/8" OAL; 3" from tip to plunge lines, its resiprene C handle is seriously comfortable after chopping with it, yes: chopping wood with it, limbing branches for kindling & cutting cardboard & everything else i could find for hours; every knife i've had with a "rubber" grip got uncomfortable after a while in use; this isn't the same: it STAYS comfortable. It uses the same modified-INFI steel 1/4" thick as the larger models: 5, 7, & #9s which is PLENTY ROUGH & TOUGH for prying anything out there! i go well out of my way to FIND things to pry, just to see this baby perform; i've not been disappointed. i have two #9s but my #3 is ALWAYS on me; Got one for my wife, too, from Nimrod, if that tells you of my undying trust in these Nuclear-fire tough tools. Plus, the handle is temparature-moderate, plus electrically insulating with no metal contact out the handle-back. this fits your size parameters perfectly, if you can get past the idea of the handle not being micarta or whatever else out there; the tests show the handle even seal/heals itself when heated if cut... Cliff Stamp (who else?) did the "cut handle / & blow torch test on them! That's one good reason why the handles are included in the lifetime guarantee. Hope this helps.

Hi Climber,
Thanks for the info. This sounds like the kind of knive I am looking for! Does the #3 have a FULL tang? Where/how does one order such a knife and about how much does one have to pay for such a handy knife? A 3" knife on your person is better than a 9" knife left at home! Thanks, HARDBALL.

All Busse knives have a full tang. While the Combat line is only available through certain, select dealers, the Basic line enjoys more widespread distribution. They are $129.99 at the 1SKS (our sponsor here) and a few dollars one way or the other elsewhere. You could always pay a substantial premium and get a Nimrod signature edition Basic 3 like Climber did but they are in very, very short supply. Besides, who wants to pay $5,000 for a $130 knife?

FWIW, I'm with Climber on the pluses of Resipene C.

[Full tang:] Yup, they do! On the basic line, ya just don't SEE it, but that nuclear-tough INFI is IN there!
[pay 5000...] Oh, Nimrod! i do! i do!
Actually, Hardball, if you check the forums FS/T : [For Sale or Trade] #3's pop up pretty frequently; but you DO have to be quick! They get devoured around here like Pop-Tarts around a camp-fire! If i see any, i'll try to nab one for you: good to have an extra set of eyes on your side; besides, i want to live vicariously thru another satisfied Busse-Man!
[pluses on handle:] Uh, yeah... motion seconded & carried...
[& its worth the carryin'...!]
You won't be disappointed, if you're looking for all-day comfort (my hands anyway) & the ability to pry open about anything man makes. i still haven't strapped it to a fresh-cut sapling pole & taken it snake-huntin' at my bike trails yet, but the day is coming... those rattlers are mean! Busse is meaner... [Having a run-in with one just tonight, i just had to say that...! i ran over a monster snake with my Mongoose mountain bike! EEK!

But i'll be back...]
VIVA LA BUSSE!
