My girlfriend and I went to her cousins place for Christmas dinner and played Wii with them. It was real fun and I think I want to get one. Anyone here who plays video games?? I had a PS2 but I gave it to my sister because I wasn't playing with it.

Should I get a Wii or will the games get boring?

my son has had his for ~ 2 yrs now, got it when they 1st came out, he still likes it FWIW and plays it nitely.

wii's are cool, i bowl with my son every now & again.........

There are some things I like about the Wii: if you have a wireless router they have built in wireless connectivity with a decent web browser, weather and news channels. They are compact, and have unique controls. However, don't expect any really deep gameplay from these- what I mean is that nearly all the games for this console tend to be really simplistic and the graphics aren't going to be anywhere near those of the XBox 360 or PS3 consoles. Also, there aren't a lot of developers making games for the Wii- since it is a unique console the payoff just isn't as much for game developers that can cross-port the same game between the XBox 360 and the PS3. Most of the third party games for the Wii have received mediocre reviews, at best (see here.) Also, this console does not have high definition support, nor does it play DVDs.

At age 46, I like the Wii. Especially Mario Kart racing, and the Wii sports games. But I have progeny ages 7 and 11, and they do the majority of the playing, so I don't know whether an adult would dig it without having kids to play along. And it is fun to race against folks from all over the world via its wireless connection to the internet.

The Wii is a decent system, but if your a "hardcore gamer" then you'll be disappointed. I've had mine for several months, and rarely play it. Nintendo tried to sell it as a family console, and to attract people who don't consider themselves gamers. The games are fairly simple, with low time requirements. They are finally starting to branch out into the mainstream game market with deeper games for those of us who play COD4, Halo 3, Fallout, ect. I think that while they will eventually get to the point where there are games for every level of player, they will never reach the level of games that Microsoft (Xbox 360) and Sony (Playstation 3) have. And yes, I do have other systems (Xbox 360, PS2, PC), and have played the PS3 at a friends house, so that's what I'm basing my statements on. Both of the other major consoles have games for the new player as well as 100+ hour games for the upper level players. Currently, I just don't see that support with the Wii. Right now the only game that I play on the Wii is Smash Brothers, and that's only if I've got friends over.

So basically, it's a nice system, but it has some major flaws for hardcore gamers. If you can wait a few years, the next gen Wii (Wii HD) will be out sometime around 2011 or so. That one will feature HD output as well as DVD playing ability.

Also, a small side note on the browser that was mentioned earlier. It does work pretty well, and even plays videos from Youtube and other sites. However, if you don't mod your Wii you will end up having to pay for it. Personally, after shelling out the cash, it's not worth the money in my opinion. Just a side note......

The wii is cool, I've played my sisters. I used hate nintendo for the lack of shooting games, but wii has alot of them. You get to move around while playing, I belive ALL gamecube games are able to play on them. Go for it, and tell me what you think.

If you want to get into REAL gaming, you should look into 360 or PS3.

Hmm... for REAL gaming I use my PC :) I love shooters and RTS, but hate adventures except for Mario

I need something that me and my girl can play together, think I'll get a Wii when I go to the city. By the way, we both have the DS and play it all the time.

I'm just having second thoughts because it might end up sitting on the shelf when I have other stuff I want to buy.

I was a hardcore gamer until a few years ago when I got married and got a real job. Now I have a Wii. I love it. The games are fun and easy to pick up, plus the wife can play along and not complain about the games being too hard. MarioKart is awesome online. I got a few more games for Christmas that are really fun (Zak and Wiki, Resident Evil, ProEvolution Soccer). One of my favorite aspects is downloading old games on the virtual console. I downloaded the original Super Mario Brothers, Mega Man2, Double Dragon, and Castlevania from the NES for $5 each. I still have my old NES, but with the Wii I get to use a wireless controller and I don't have to blow the games out, put them in halfway and slam them down, then push them the rest of the way in.

I enjoy my Wii very much, and get a big kick out of the virtual console. Devil's Crush pinball is the biggest time suck I know right now. I just turned it off and figured I drop by the forums. :)

they are pretty expensive for the quality of their graphics and games... but if you are going for more, "Interactive" games, a wii is the way to go

My son got the Wii Fit for Christmas... The Snowboarding and the Skiing are a blast on it (and a challenge too!) My wife finally tried it, after the son hassled her all day. I tried to warn him... She promptly set family high scores in a couple of the activities! She's still the king at Ski Jumping, but we're closing in on her.

A very fun (and VERY aerobic game!)

My son has a Wii...I also bought us the WiiFit for Xmas. It's a blast.

For inclusion of all family members, it can't be beat. Anyone young or old can play most of the basic games. It's fun to fire it up at family functions, and get everyone involved. It definitely bridges the age gap and gets us all laughing.

Graphics, like others have said, are lacking in comparison with other systems. They are getting more titles out there now, and certain ones you can't get for the other systems either.

Absolutely get one!

My son has one. He is a "serious" gamer (is that an oxymoron) and he likes his but now that he has an XBox 360 he doesn't play his WII ever.

He had always been into cartoony type games like Mario and that's great on the WII. I thought the sports games were fun, but I never played them that much.

I love the we and I too am a "serious" gamer;)

Actually, the wife plays it more than I do, but it's great fun. Wii Sports and Mario Kart are some of my favorites. It's a good break from the more hardcore games found on the PS3 and Xbox.

We bought ours over 2 years ago and still use it several times a week.

Its a party game machine or a machine for young kids. It hasn't got the processing power for traditional games. I have Need for Speed on the WII and the graphics are fairly poor. On the other hand the games actually designed for the WII are fairly good if you want that kind of game. The balance board is also good.

If you want hardcore gaming you would probably want an Xbox or PS3 and a WII
