Nirvana detent??

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I received a Spyderco Nirvana today, new from a dealer, and the detent is almost non-existent. The blade will shake loose of the handle pretty easy and I can flick my wrist just a tad without even touching the blade and it flies open and locks. It is actually kind of hard to flick open with the spydie hole because not enough pressure is building against the detent ball.

Or maybe it isn't the detent but lockbar pressure? On a possibly related note, mine had only minor lock stick and it only took about 20 opening/closings for it to go away and it's very easy to disengage the lock.

Anyone else's Nirvana like this? I don't mind a weak detent but really don't want the blade falling out of the handle either.

I'll try to upload a video of it this evening.

That really sucks man. If it's as bad as you're describing I would recommend sending it back. It's a really nice knife but also expensive, it would be a shame if you were to not enjoy it because of this issue. My nirvana has a really great detent and so did the other one at the store that I bought mine from. Good luck.

Both of my Nirvanas have good detent. My "user" I can hold upside down and shake moderately and the blade will not move. If I shake it really hard the blade will move slightly but not much. My second Nirvana I can shake very hard and the blade won't budge. So I'm happy with both of mine.

If either of mine had as little detent as you're describing , I'd return it. For $432 you deserve your knife to work perfectly.

Thanks for the reply guys. Maybe I will be able to exchange it for another one. Really like everything else about it. Bummer but it can be fixed.

My Nirvana has strong lockbar tension, and a moderate detent. It can be shaken out with a fairly violent wrist flick, but in practice the detent is totally sufficient.

It's a gorgeous knife. You should call the dealer you got it from and tell them you're not happy with your purchase. Explain the situation and tell them you'd like to exchange it for another Nirvana.

That describes mine perfectly. I haven't had an issue with it opening unexpectedly.

Yeah my Nirvana has a very firm detent, even after I loosened the lockbar tension a tad

smuiradise: Is the date code for your Nirvana FP or GP? This is located on the tag that is attached to the pouch.

I have four Nirvanas. Three are from the first batch (FP date code, meaning June of 2016). The latest is apparently from the second batch (GP date code, meaning July of 2017). The detent of my FP ones is stronger, but that of my GP one is not as loose as smuiradise described, at least not to the point that I would feel compelled to send it back to Spyderco.

I didn't see the code, but mine was from the second batch. If you waved it around, the blade stayed in, but if you gave it a sharp downward shake, the blade flew around and locked open.

I sent mine back for a refund. It's a beautiful knife, and I considered keeping it just as a paperweight, but the handle ergos didn't do it for my hand and the blade geometry is something I'd expect from Busse. I'm going to put the money towards the KW S90V Ti Millie when it comes out.
