I've been using the Nite Ize Eclipse on my phones for the last several years. It was a great product, that was unfortunately discontinued. When that happened, I bought four or five off of ebay so that I could continue to use them for years to come. I just discovered, though, that Nite Ize has introduced a newer version called the Total Eclipse. It's predecessor was metal. The new version is a "carbon fiber composite." The clip is a bit thicker, and seems to be about 30% less expensive (at about $9.) If I didn't have a few of the older ones stashed away, I'd definitely give the newer one a try. The old version, at least, was a truly great product that made the phone completely secure, yet instantly available. I hope the newer version works as well.

I picked one up a few years ago. Attached it to a piece of scrap brass just a bit wider than the clip and about 1/2" longer. Drilled a hole through the brass and ran my key ring through it. Have worn it as a dangler with the advantage that it clips securely to my pocket. The adhesive strip on the clip has held up under daily use. Great gadget.

Before you guys copy maury's excellent idea, know that Nite Ize has just released the Keyclipse.

Back to the Eclipse... I forgot to mention in my original post that I often clip my phone to my shirt collar and use the speaker phone if I'm doing something that requires the use of both hands. I've had quick phone conversations this way when riding my bike (on easy bike trails—not in traffic.)
